TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles (Tuesdays, 9/8C) returns tonight with a visit from IAD when Frankie shoots a man but the guy’s gun cannot be found. It’s a case of a lead in a murder leading to something else entirely.
The Platform opens with Jane (Angie Harmon), Frankie (Jordan Bridges) and Vic (Bruce McGill) chasing a man with a yellow streak in his hair. They follow him into a subway station where they lose him. A shot rings out. Cut to one day earlier…
The fifth season of Rizzoli & Isles had a couple of obstacles to overcome in the loss of Lee Thompson Young during the show’s hiatus, and trying to remember him while moving on. It’s a measure of the show’s consistency that both obstacles were handled well.
In every other way, the show maintained its mix of procedural efficiency and character heart. In a way, season five was one of the show’s most inventive.
TNT has ordered an 18-episode sixth season for Rizzoli & Isles, its hit series based on the bestselling mystery series by Tess Gerritsen. After five seasons, Rizzoli & Isles continues to be one of basic cable’s Top 5 scripted dramas.
The series stars Angie Harmon as hard-headed, brilliant detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner Maura Isles. In their case, opposites fight crime together.
Season six of Rizzoli & Isles is set for a summer 2015 launch. For more, follow the jump.
On the renewal of these three hit series, Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) had this to say to the media. “TNT has enjoyed tremendous success on Sunday and Monday nights with Leverage, The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles. All three shows feature terrific casts, sharp writing and top-notch production teams. We look forward to continued success with new seasons in 2011.”
The Closer, which continues to rank as ad-supported cable’s #1 series of all time, will return for its seventh season. Rizzoli & Isles, which currently ranks as cable’s #1 new series for the year-to-date, will return for a second season. Leverage, which is performing exceptionally well in its new Sunday timeslot, will be back for a fourth season. TNT has ordered 15 episodes each of The Closer and Leverage, along with 13 episodes of Rizzoli & Isles, with all three slated to start their new seasons in 2011.
