20th Century Fox Film Acquires Minority Share of Comics Publisher BOOM! Studios!

Twentieth Century Fox Film has announced a strategic investment in comics and graphic novels publisher BOOM! Studios – a deal that gives the film studio a ‘significant minority stake in the largest independently-controlled comic book and graphic novel library.’

The deal also extends BOOM Studio’s first look movie and TV deal with Fox.

TCFF is currently in post-production on a feature film based on BOOM!’s The Empty Man, from the graphic novel by Cullen Bunn and Vanesa R. Del Rey.

Adventure Time/Regular Show Crossover Coming From BOOM! Studios!

Adventure Time/Regular Show #1 Connecting Main Cover A by Phil Murphy

BOOM! Studios has announced the first crossover between two epically popular Cartoon Network shows: Adventure Time and Regular Show. The first issue of the six-issue crossover will be in comics shops in August.

When a powerful new villain threatens to conquer Adventure Time’s Ooo, Princess Bubblegum sends Finn and Jake on a desperate quest to find The Power that can save the land—a power that Skips from Regular Show just happens to be hiding!

Finn and Jake’s arrival only exacerbates an existing tension between Mordecai and Rigby, and the trip back to Ooo threatens to tear two sets of bros apart…forever.

Mech Cadet Yu – Making a Hero Out of the Wrong Kid!

Once a year, giant robots from outer space come to Earth and bond with young cadets from the elite Sky Corps Academy to defend the world from the terrifying aliens known as the Sharg. It’s a great honor to be chosen, but this year…well, the wrong kid was picked.

That’s the premise of BOOM! Studios’ new series Mech Cadet Yu, which follows Stanford Yu – that wrong kid.

The series is by Greg Pak (Totally Awesome Hulk) and Takeshi Miyazawa (Ms. Marvel, Runaways). The first issue will in comics shops in August.

BOOM! Studios & 20th Century Fox Set War for the Planet of the Apes Comic for July!

BOOM! Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have announced a four-issue limited series – War for the Planet of the Apes – that will serve as a bridge between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 20th’s War for the Planet of the Apes.

Written by David F. Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist) and illustrated by Jonas Scharf (Warlords of Appalachia), War of the Planet of the Apes #1 will be in comics shops on July 12th.

Saban Brands & BOOM! Studios Launch Second Ongoing Power Rangers Title!

That’s the tagline for a new Power Rangers title – Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers – from Saban Brands and BOOM! Studios.

Written by Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) and illustrated by Dan Mora (WWE, Klaus), Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers is set after the first episode of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and centers around Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, and Billy as they navigate high school, just days after receiving their superhero abilities. The story delves into their lives of saving the world while juggling history tests, dating and after-school jobs.

Buffy Alum Does Clueless Comic for BOOM Studios!

Buffy the Vampire alumna Amber Benson – aka Tara McClay – is writing a comic book follow up to the Alicia Silverstone movie Clueless with art by Adventure Time’s Siobhan Keenan.

It’s senior year at Bronson Alcott High School, and Cher, Dionne, and Tai find themselves in a bit of an existential crisis: Where are they meant to go, and what are they meant to DO after high school? Luckily they have all year—and each other’s help—to figure it out!

Clueless #1 will be in stores this summer.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Co-Creator Updates Jane Eyre in Graphic Novel!

Aline Brosh McKenna, co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Eisner-winning artist Ramón K. Pérez are updating Charlotte Brontë’s classic, Jane Eyre, for BOOM studios’ imprint Archaia.

Jane will tell the story of a girl from a small fishing town who goes to art school in the big city. Needing money, she takes a job as nanny for a young girl named Adele – but finds herself falling for the girl’s father.

A release for Jane is to be determined.

BOOM! Studios Sets Kids Dark Crystal Graphic Novel for Summer!

BOOM! Studios will be publishing Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal Tales, a children’s book from its Arachaia imprint, this summer.

The graphic novel will delve deep into the Skeksis-ruled land of Thra in a beautiful look at some of Jim Henson and Brian Froud’s finest creations from writer/artist Cory Godbey.

“The themes woven within The Dark Crystal have never been more important for children or the parents of those children to hear,” said Godbey. “As the UrSkek tells Jen, ‘…we all are a part of each other.'”
