ES_25Anniversary_Packshot

Fox Home Entertainment is having a big blow-out at Comic-Con. They are hosting a screening of X-Men: Days of Futures Past Rogue Cut Saturday night and if you purchase or pre-order Blu-rays at the convention, you’ll get treated to some truly gorgeous (or at least weird) custom cover art.  I don’t get why the Big Trouble in Little China artwork looks like Jack Sparrow….The Edward Scissorhands packaging looks GORGEOUS! How many times can people buy The Terminator on Blu-ray? Take a look at the gallery below.

Halloween The Complete Collection wins Saturn Award for Best DVD/BD Collection

Halloween-box-art-620x400

Four years after the Saturn Awards were born, an indie horror film was released that would transform the genre. The 1978 John Carpenter terror classic, Halloween, was the beginning of one of the most durable, iconic and copiously studied horror franchises ever created. Ten films and over three decades later, Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory released the entire collection on Blu-ray™.

Last evening, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films awarded the Halloween Complete Collection with the Saturn Award for Best DVD/BD Collection release. Malek Akkad, son of the original film’s producer Moustapha Akkad and producer of the next installment of Halloween, accepted the honor. The event was held at the Castaway in Burbank, California and attended by an audience of over 600 attendees.

Flash S1 Go Blu-ray Sept 22nd!

Flash S1 Blu-ray

I understand why television studios put their TV Season sets out in the fall instead of the summer like they used to, I don’t like it! Give it to me now dammit! Warner Home video just announced The Flash Season 1 and Arrow Season 3 come to our beloved Blu-ray this September. So if you are keeping track Gotham S1, Flash S1, and Arrow S3 are all coming in September.  Warner home video generally packs their Blu-rays with tons of cool stuff, so these should be well worth picking up. All three sets also include Digital Copies. One of my biggest peeves is when studios don’t include them.

Into The Woods Hits Digital/Blu-ray Next Week

IntoTheWoodsBlu-ray

I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about Into The Woods. It has some fun moments, but I don’t think I’m a fan of the music and man does it go dark. Looking forward to revisiting it when it comes to High-Definition next week.  I’ll have a full review of the Blu-ray sometime next week. In the meantime check out this trailer for the film. Highlights include:

  • Meryl Streep singing a never before heard Sondheim song “She’ll Be Back”
  • Several making of featurettes
  • A commentary track from Director Rob Marshall and Producer John DeLuca
  • A sing along option
  • And of course Disney’s excellent Movies Anywhere digital copy.

Carrie Comes to Blu-ray/DVD

CarrieBD

I really liked 2/3rds of Carrie and think it’ll play really well on Blu-ray. Fear her power!  Unleash the telekinetic horror when CARRIE debuts on Digital HD January 3 and on Blu-ray and DVD January 14 from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. An exhilarating reimagining of Stephen King’s iconic best-seller from director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss), this tale of small town terror stars Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass 2, Dark Shadows) and Julianne Moore (Don Jon, Game Change).
