Tonight’s episode of Alphas (Syfy, 10/9C) introduces Kat, an alpha who hangs out at an underground alpha fight club. She has one of the more unusual alpha abilities: she can pick up any physical ability at a glance – but, as with most alpha abilities, there’s a negative impact too.
Erin Way, who joins the series this evening, spoke about her character with a group of journalists/bloggers last week.

In tonight’s episode of Alphas(Syfy, 10/9C), Malik Yoba’s former FBI Agent, Bill Harken, tracks a killer alpha to an underground fight club, where he takes a whupping and meets Kat, a young girl with a pretty unusual alpha ability.
Last week, Yoba spent a bit of time chatting with a group of bloggers/journalists about season three of Alphas, Harken’s evolving relationship with Gary and the impact that Kat has on his character. He also displayed a wee bit of an alpha ability himself…

Last week, I had the opportunity to take part in a teleconference Q&A session with Ryan Cartwright, who plays Gary Bell, Alphas’ (Syfy, Mondays, 10/9C) autistic with a unique connection to electronic communications.
As we discovered last year, Cartwright is a charming, good humored guy who really loves his character and has a lot of fun talking about him and the show.

Wake Up Call is the second season premiere of Alphas (Syfy, Mondays, 10/9C). It’s been eight months since Dr. Lee Rosen went public about the alphas and he has spent the intervening time in a mental health facility while the government has attempted to build a case for his having a history of mental health issues. But he is patient…

Syfy’s new hit series Alphas will feature an impressive lineup of special guest stars for its debut season. Garret Dillahunt (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Burn Notice), Summer Glau (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Alaina Huffman (Smallville, Stargate Universe), Rebecca Mader (Lost), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Lindsay Wagner (Warehouse 13) and Peter Wingfield (Sanctuary) will join previously announced recurring guest star Valerie Cruz.
The curious thing about bringing Wagner to alphas is that she’s reprising her Warehouse 13 role as Dr. Vanessa Chase. I can see Warehouse 13 and Eureka [which has crossed over with W13 a couple of times] as being in the same universe, but Alphas is tonally all wrong for that kind of crossover – unless their Dr. Chase is just an AU version of the one in W13. Should be interesting to see…
A complete of episodes featuring the abovementioned guest stars, follow the jump.

Syfy’s new original series, Alphas [Mondays, 10/9C], is a unique take on people with extraordinary powers. It may remind of things we have seen before, but it manages to take familiar ideas into fresh territory. They might seem like superheroes on paper, but the reality is far more interesting.

One of the most interesting shows of the summer is Syfy’s Alphas, a series about ordinary people with extraordinary abilities – and the underfunded government agency for which they work. Co-created by Zak Penn [X2, X-Men: Last Stand], the series could be described as X-Men without the glitz, glamor and recognition – but with, as Penn has said in interviews, a steady paycheck and a great dental plan.
I had the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session with Alphas’ showrunner, Ira Steven Behr [The 4400] and two of the show’s stars – Ryan Cartwright [Bones’ late, lamented Mr. Nigel-Murray], who plays autistic transducer Gary Bell, and Azita Ghanizada [How I Met Your Mother], plays synesthete, Rachel Pirzad. Don’t worry, these terms will be explained below.

This season, Syfy will premiere eighteen new and returning series – the most it’s ever produced for a single season. Things kick off in June with alternative/unscripted/reality programs Haunted Collector [new] and season two of Hollywood Treasure, with four scripted shows following in July: Alphas [new], Eureka, Haven and Warehouse 13. Plus there are several more series – scripted and unscripted – and Syfy Original Movies waiting in the wings. Syfy’s full press release after the jump.
