BBC America Co-Producing Anthology Series Responding To 50th Anniversary of The UK’s The Sexual Offences Act!

BBC America will co-produce Queers, a series of eight short films in which eight established writers respond to the 50th Anniversary of The Sexual Offences Act – which partially decriminalized homosexual acts between men in the UK.

Curated and directed by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), the films star award winners Alan Cumming, Ben Whishaw, Rebecca Front, Russell Tovey, Gemma Whelan, Ian Gelder, Kadiff Kirwan and Fionn Whitehead. The series will premiere on October 14th at 10/9c.

Strangely, Strange Magic Is Not Really Magical!

STRANGE MAGIC

The world could have used a great CG reimagining of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream. What a shame this isn’t it.

Still there are some good moments to be had from Strange Magic – Alan Cumming rocking out as the Bog King and Evan Rachel Ward flittering through several musical styles as Princess Marianne of the Fairy Kingdom come to mind.

First Look: Strange Magic

STRANGE MAGIC

Lucasfilm Ltd.’s Strange Magic – a ‘madcap fairy tale musical inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will be the company’s first theatrical release since the company was acquired by Disney.

Strange Magic stars an amazing voice cast – Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristen Chenowith, Maya Rudolph and Peter Stormare among them – and will be released through Touchstone Pictures on January 23, 2015. For details, follow the jump.

The Smurfs – First Photo!

While I was never a fan of the Smurfs, the film, which doesn’t open until August of next year, has put together a terrific cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria [as Gargamel, no less], Jayma Mays, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Anton Yelchin and Sofia Vergara – to name but a few. I’m intrigued by that cast.
