People Like Us is a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine (“Star Trek”) as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about his family—and re-examine his own life choices in the process.

People Like Us is the the feature film directing debut of co-writer Alex Kurtzman [Alias, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek]. The DreamWorks Pictures releases opens on June 29, 2012. Check out the Sizzle Reel Featurette above.

Ben Affleck’s third film as a director, Argo, is based on the true story of how an imaginative CIA Agent [played by Affleck in the film] saved the lives of half-a-dozen employees of the American embassy in Iran in the ‘70s by persuading the the Iranian government they were part of a Canadian film crew shooting a science-fantasy movie called Argo. GeekScholars Movie NewsThis week on GeekScholars Movie News, presented by Eclipse Magazine, we look at the always fantastic, blockbuster-filled month of May. It’s a great time of year to go to the movies, and we’ll tell you which flicks are simply not to be missed!

From there we dive into some preview reviews. Our first trailer we look at is a prohibition period piece starring Shia LeBeouf and Tom Hardy as bootlegging brothers in Lawless. After that we discuss our first look at the quasi-sequel to Knocked Up called This is 40 starring Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd.

From there we have few quickies to update you on as well as our weekend preview which really only deals with the one movie you should be seeing- The Avengers.

The newest trailer for Pixar’s Brave is the most intriguing and entertaining so far. It also signals Pixar’s recovery from the lame, action movie heroics of Cars 2 to a solid, character-driven adventure. Plus Gaelic folk music! I am so there!
