HAPPYish was created, essentially, for the late Philip Seymour Hoffman to play the lead role – Thom Payne, whose inner turmoil is exacerbated by his new boss, a wunderkind who uses all the hip buzzwords and generally throws his life into a state of joylessness.
The series got a second life when Steve Coogan was cast as Thom and will premiere on Sunday, April 26th (9:30/8:30C). Judging from the first trailer for the show, it was a smart decision to carry on. Check it out after the jump.
Maybe, after 44 years on this ludicrous planet, settling for happyish is the best one can get. HAPPYish premieres Sun 4/26 at 9:30PM ET/PT on Showtime. Starring Steve Coogan, Ellen Barkin, Bradley Whitford, and Kathryn Hahn.
Thom Payne is a 44 year-old man whose world is thrown into disarray when his 25 year-old “wunderkind” boss arrives, saying things like “digital,” “social” and “viral.” Is he in need of a “rebranding,” or does he just have a “low joy ceiling?” Maybe pursuing happiness is a fool’s errand? Maybe, after 44 years on this ludicrous planet, settling for happyish is the best one can expect.
