Baltimore Comic Con 2010

Forget the racist, hate rally on the Mall tomorrow, come to where all the lovin’ is happening – Baltimore’s 11th Annual Comic-Con is happening this weekend at the Baltimore Convention Center. Highlights from this year’s show include the Annual Harvey Awards tomorrow night, there’s going to be a Walk of the Dead (and Beer Crawl) from 4pm – 2am it starts at Federal Hill and goes to Canton Hall, and since this is a smaller show the focus is squarely on Comic Books, most of the top names in the business will be there including Terry Moore, Mark Waid, Todd McFarlane and others. Great Panels including DC Nation and Mondo Marvel.  I don’t have much access at this year’s show – how is that possible? I’m A list in San Diego and NY but in my home town I’m a nobody? Whine….. So It should actually be fun, I can just soak it in and take a bunch of pictures and enjoy it.

Wolverine_01_Cover

Although I don’t buy as many comics as I used, I still have a sentimental attachment to Wolverine and his funky mask [that mirrors his hairdo!] and those wicked cool claws. So, when a first look at something called Wolverine Goes to Hell popped up in my inbox, I knew I had to share.

More preview covers and pages [and release info] follows the jump.

Oblivion_Preview_Cover

The folks at Radical Publishing have, once again, sold the film rights to one of their properties – in this case, though, it’s not a graphic novel. Oblivion is an illustrated novel written by Arvid Nelson and created by the director of TRON: Legacy, Joseph Kosinski. It’s a post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel that will be released in the summer of 2011.

Details from the press release follow the jump.

The Amazing Spiderman is going to go through some major changes in the fall and rumor has it Peter Parker may not be around by the end of the year. Here is your first look at Amazing Spider-Man #642, from superstar writer Mark Waid and fan-favorite artist Paul Azaceta! Origin Of The Species starts here! The birth of Norman Osborn’s son ignites a fire in the supervillain community and everyone is on the hunt for the new strain of Goblin blood. Spider-Man must keep the child out of the hands of the world’s most powerful villains, but at what cost? With Mary Jane back in Peter’s life and the most dangerous mission he has ever faced in front of him, Spidey stands to lose everything. Discover the Origin Of The Species in Amazing Spider-Man #642! I have to say, while I’m still excited for the story, the artwork in this preview looks horrible an enough with Peter whining about money. Feel like I’ve been reading about his money trouble for 20 years! Take a gander after the break.

callahan

Anyone who has seen a cartoon by John Callahan will know that he loved to call ‘em as he saw ‘em. The quadriplegic whose art spawned two television series [the family show, Pelswick, about a wheelchair-bound boy who wanted nothing more than to live a normal life; John Callahan’s Quads, an adults-only series about a group of foul-mouthed characters with an assortment of disabilities and bad attitudes] died Saturday of complications related to quadriplegia and respiratory problems.

BuffyNoFutureforYou

If, like me, you were left wondering what happened after the series finale of TV’s Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, you were probably thrilled to discover the Dark Horse comic in which series creator Joss Whedon and his hand-picked gang of writers and artists explored those very events.

Now, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight is a motion comic – and the season premiere [as it were] is now available on iTunes. When the season has been translated completely to motion comics, all nineteen episodes will be collected on DVD and Blu-ray for release on January 4th, 2011. Details follow the jump [c’mon Joss, give a couple commentaries!].
