My War Horse journey is now complete. It started at the world premiere, then award season and now Joey the horse comes to Blu-ray in a 4 disc combo set. This movie holds up remarkably well and gets better with each successive viewing. I can’t say that about most movies.

How do you create an alien invasion movie on a minimal budget? Easy, make them invisible. That’s the basic premise behind Director Chris Gorak the Darkest Hour. Is it me or is using camouflage shields cheating? I mean come on, if you are going to invade us, do it straight up.
The movie works well as a low budget, sci-fi survival story. There are some interesting ideas here that are executed fairly well. Emile Hirsch is one of those actors that I would like to see more of. He was fantastic in the unfairly maligned, Speed Racer. He received great review for Into The Wild and Milk, he seemed hot,
then he just disappeared for awhile. He does a fine job in this as the optimistic go to guy for a ragtag group of survivors. Where this movie made its mistake is releasing it on the big screen first. It sets a different expectation level for what a sci-fi movie should be.

Life’s a happy song whenever the Muppets are around. Studio executives should take note; this is the kind of product you get when you put a film in the hands of someone who has obvious passion for what they are doing. Jason Segel championed this movie for years and it’s clear that everyone involved has a love of all things muppets.

I know many people don’t like Sam Worthington and I’m one of them. Worthington is trying to prove that he’s not the one-dimensional actor that we all think he is. Lately he’s been doing some interesting off the radar projects like Man on A Ledge and now the serial killer mystery Texas Killing Fields.

Queen: Days Of Our Lives is an excellent documentary that was put together for the “World’s Greatest Rock Band”. This special collection of Queen footage was directed by Matt O’Casey and produced by Simon Lupton and Rhys Thomas. The remaining band members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had asked Lupton and Thomas to put together a special 40th anniversary documentary to pay tribute to the band. After a year of researching past Queen video footage and editing, Queen: Days Of Our Lives was the final result.

After watching Disney’s latest restoration, I’ve come to the conclusion that I want a pet – probably a cat. But if I can get a dog as beautiful as Lady or the Tramp then I can see myself going for a puppy. Disney’s new transfer of the 1955 classic gives the movie a fresh coat of paint that makes it look new again.
