
Oliver Platt plays supermarket king, Stavros Milos on FX’s hit show, Fargo (Tuesdays, 10/9C). Recently he spoke with a group of journalists/bloggers about how Calgary’s coldest winter in twenty years helped keep things real on the shoot – and what it takes to play a character like Stavros, who has such a fascinating arc on the show.
Platt was thoughtful and measured in his responses to our questions and came across as polite, intelligent and focused – unlike his character.

Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk is among four actors named as new cast members on FX’s Fargo miniseries. He, Oliver Platt, Kate Walsh and Glenn Howerton join a cast that already includes Billy nob Thornton, Martin Freeman and Colin Hanks.

Gabourey Sidibe, Academy Award® Best Actress nominee for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, is joining the cast of Showtime’s upcoming half-hour series The Big C in a recurring role.
The Big C stars multiple-award winner Laura Linney as a repressed wife and mother named Cathy who begins to reclaim her life after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sidibe will play a smart-alecky student in Cathy’s class. Oliver Platt stars as Cathy’s well-meaning but immature husband.
The Big C begins shooting in May with an eye toward a late summer premiere.
It starts with an Indian geologist, Dr. Satnam Tsurutami [Jimy Mistry] alerting American geologist Dr. Adrian Helmsley [Chiwetal Ejiofor] of rising temperatures in the world’s deepest copper mine [handily already mined out]. This is tied into abnormally strong sun flares and sufficient neutrinos that they have a mutating effect… Well, you get the idea. Scientific technospeak sets up Helmsley’s warning to Carl Anheuser [Oliver Platt], an influential member of U.S. President Thomas Wilson’s [Danny Glover] team. Before you know it, the heads of the most powerful heads of state in the world have come to an agreement to find a way to ensure human survival after the apocalypse to come.
