truTV Orders Pilot for Those Who Can’t!

Those Who Can't

truTV is getting into the scripted comedy business, resurrecting Those Who Can’t from turnaround at Amazon as a pilot for a prospective series.

The series follows a trip of dysfunctional high school teachers (what do those who can’t do? They teach! pa-dum-pump!).  Created by and starring Denver-based comedy troupe The Grawlix, the pilot stars Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy as the trio of teachers who are as messed up as their students. Check out the teaser from the Amazon pilot, after the jump, to get a sense of what the series might look like.

truTV Orders Pilot for The Grawlix’s Those Who Can’t (working title)

truTV continues to expand its programming horizons by ordering a new scripted comedy pilot for Those Who Can’t (working title), created by and starring the Denver-based comedy troupe The Grawlix. Set in Denver, Those Who Can’t follows three dysfunctional high school teachers – played by Grawlix members Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy – who are as screwed-up as the kids they teach. When an entitled bully decides to make their lives miserable, they go to ridiculous lengths to exact revenge.

Produced by Thank You, Brain! Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment, Those Who Can’t marks truTV’s first foray into full-length scripted series after the network branched out into scripted sketch comedy with the current series Friends of the People, also from 3 Arts Entertainment.

Those Who Can’t was originally produced as pilot for Amazon Prime, where it tested very high. truTV acquired the property in turnaround and plans to reshoot the entire pilot.

“We love Adam, Andrew and Ben’s unique sense of humor, especially the characters they’ve created at the center of Those Who Can’t,” said Marissa Ronca, senior vice president of development & original programming for truTV. “This show is funny, original and the perfect project for truTV to expand into scripted.”

Serving as executive producers on Those Who Can’t are show creators Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy; Tracey Baird and Krysia Plonka of Thank You, Brain! Productions; Michael Rotenberg and Josh Lieberman of 3 Arts Entertainment; and Co-EP of Broad City Eric Slovin. Executive producer Rich Korson, who signed an overall development deal with truTV earlier this year, is also working on the pilot.
