Author’s note: I am working on other stories but this one poked it’s head in so I had to write it down.

Chapter One
Jareth stood by the windowsill looking out into the Goblin City bored out of his mind. He could see how some goblins picked up some old leftovers from a trash can and began to eat!
He was digusted by his own subjects and winced at the grossness.
“How utterly awfully disgusting little magets. Can’t they ever be civilized?”

He walked away from the windowsill and he went to sit on his now clean thrown room since the new law prevented any of the Goblins to enter the castle on less they were servants or if they were summoned there. There premisces were only to the outside of the castle. Jareth had grown weary of them all one day and the stench of chicken dunk had made him sick to stomach one last time. He kicked them all out!Literally!

He conjured up a crystal and his usual routine began again. There she was cleaning up her kitchen and talking to her bestfriend Ryan whom was beginning to be more like her supplemental boyfriend as she had entered into her 30’s. Sarah still had not found a man to share the rest of her life with. She always somehow found something wrong with them. Ryan was the only man in her life and he was beginning to win ground.

“That annoying scoundrel is always calling her! What does he want with her?” He said as he smirked and touched the crystal with one of his hands to caress Sarah’s face as she leaned over wiping off the kitchen counter with the phone on her left shoulder.

The he heard it the most annoying noise he had ever heard and has heard for the past 20 years. “Jareth, Oh Jareth darling what are you doing? Come here I need you.”

Jareth’s shoulders went up as his body reacted to the unnerving voice that altered his body into a state of almost shock!

“Um dearest? I am busy with matters now? Is it really important?”

He hears footsteps coming closer as he quickly dissolves the crystal into then air almost hiding his hands behind him as if he were a small child hiding something.

In comes Gertrude his wife, she was tall and petite and her long silvery hair flew with the air. Her crystal blue eyes fixed on his hands knowing full well what her husband had been doing. She had known since the day she married him that he still loved her. Sarah the mortal. Her pale skin like his could not hide the redness beginning to arise in her bony cheeks. Her flowy medieval green dress shivered with her body.

“Darling I was merely trying to get your opinion on what I should wear for the masque this coming weekend. Here should I wear this beautiful butterfly or should I wear this?” And she brought out a pair of jeans with a beige peasants blouse. “I could go as Sarah and then maybe, then MAYBE you would actually pay attention to me! For once in our 20 years of marraige Jareth!”

Jareth looked dead at her knowing full well what puddle of tears lay ahead for him. This routine had nearly driven him crazy and here he had to endure this torture again.

‘Must I really go through this again. Oh why did I marry this wench. It’s all Sarah’s fault. If she had not turned down my offer father would not have forced me to marry this pompous fake and I could be married to Sarah by now but she turned me down! She’s as stubburn as a mule!’

“Really Gertrude must we go through this again. I never lied to you decieving you that I had stopped loving Sarah but my father’s dying wish was to see me married and since I could NOT unfortuneatly marry for love, I married for treaty. That has never been a secret to you dear and still you deny me the only thing I ever asked of you from the beginning which was PEACE OF MIND!!! And ever since I married you that is the last thing I have PEACE!!!”

Jareth regretted the words that had just come out of his mouth but now it was too late to take them back. He would give her flowers later to calm her down. Gertrude ran to her bedroom crying like a baby and Jareth just shook his head in amazement and sat crookedly on his thrown again conjuring up his crystal staring at Sarah once more.

Sarah unbeknownst to her carried on with life. Now in her 30’s she was beginning to feel like an old spinster atleast that is what Karen her step-mother always made her feel like. “Sarah your biological clock is ticking and Toby needs some nephews and nieces.” Sarah could just hear her nagging her in her head. Karen never learned how to be that mother Sarah always needed instead Karen opted to be her friend but that never seemed to settle on Sarah.

“Ok Ryan I gotta go. We’ll talk later. I have that book signing at that library remember. Yeah I know but hey it’s a living. NO they haven’t called me back, but my agent says that she is sure this part is perfect for me. Yeah thanks hopefully they will call me soon. But hey for now I still have my books right? Ok, talk to you later. Bye.”

Sarah had written a book titled ‘Jareth the Goblin King’. When that one became popular she wrote many small series on the the Labyrinth creatures she encountered.’The Goblin City’, ‘The Little Blue Worm’, ‘The Fieries Loose Their Heads’ and ‘The Rock Callers’ .

She even wrote one especifically on Hoggle which talked about bestfriends. They were a favorite among the children. After she had gotten permission to write those mini series she had become the latest children’s craze. There was even a video cassette where children could sing along with the album ‘Songs From the Underground’. Sarah found her new talent some what boring but she knew deep in heart that her acting career was halted after she became known in the entertainment world as a fantasy writer. It was getting harder and harder to break out of that mold. But she carried on with life as she always had.

Sarah jumped in the shower and got ready for the book signing. She always wore whimsical outfits to awe the children. That was her favorite part and sometimes she even hired a few actors and they reenacted scenes from her books. The children loved that. This time she was going to go as Sarah the heroin of the original story. She was ready. Blue jeans and her beige peasants blouse her hair let down and she even carried around a doll with stripped white and red pajamas.

She looked at herself in the mirror and sighed.’If only one day I could go back there.’ Still she stood up straight and grabbed her car keys and headed down to Garden City , NY to Holly Pattersson Library.

Jareth looked at her through his crystal and thought of something he should not be thinking. He would surprise Sarah. ‘It’s about time I popped back into her life. After all another character of her stories needs to be present.’

He stood up and disappeared with a poof of glitter everywhere.
