Chapter Two
Sarah arrived a little early and she began preparing the reading area and it’s small stage. She began to prepare the props here and there before the signing was to begin. Her agent Katrice was there helping here out.
The actors that Sarah had hired had not arrived yet and she was beginning to get nervous.
“Where are they? Katrice are you sure you called the agency again?”
“Sarah Darling you worry to much really. Trust me, I called them and they should be here any second. Relax, baby relax.”
Sarah rolled her eyes and wished that her agent wouldn’t be such a stereotypical agent with all those baby’s in each line they say.
20 minutes passed by and the library was going to open soon. Then came in all the characters of the original story. Actors dressed up except for one. The Goblin King was missing!!!!
“Where the hell is Tom? He can’t be late. Isn’t he supposed to be proper at all times? After all he is English!” Sarah said beginning to feel her cheeks turning red.
“I don’t know luv but he shall be here soon. I know it’s such a bugger he’ll be here, don’t worry.” Said the actor who played Sir Didymus.
Sarah was angry by now but tried to calm down. After all children were beginning to show up with their parents and she was an example to them. She merely gritted her teeth and went to sit down at the signing table.
10 Minutes later Katrice goes to whisper into Sarah’s ear.”Darling he is here but he says he is a sub for Tom since Tom got a gig somewhere else.”
Sarah looks around but no site of him. “Oh you won’t see him yet. He said he won’t come out of hiding in the bathroom. Something about giving you a surprise. I tell you I have never seen someone looking that good as a Goblin King. He looks absolutely scrumptous. Now continue signing and smiling baby. Your audience loves yah!”
Sarah smiled nervously she did not like suprises when it came to her Labyrinth performances. This was the only way she could pretend to be there. She missed her friends. Only days after her trip to the Labyrinth did she call for her friends but none of them came.
She tried and tried for a long time but nothing. She figured they did not care for her anymore. She remembered all the good times with her friends and tears almost welled up in her eyes. But what frightened her the most was how she even missed him. That awful stubborn, sadistic pig of a King. ‘Jareth, if only…’ She thought. But was quickly interrupted when all the children began to clap as her last signature was given and the announcement of the show was being done. Sarah rushed to the back and fixed herself up a bit. Still no Goblin King insight.
“Hey, who is this guy playing Jareth?” She asked the actor portraying Ludo. He was immensly tall guy with a deep voice he said,”I don’t know, but if you get his number let me know. He looks delicious.Mmmhmm girl. I am ready to eat him up alive. Sushi style, you know what I mean?”
Sarah smiled not believing such a big guy being well you know.
The music began and the little theatrical show was to begin. All the lights were turned down and the spotlight was shown on an owl which began to fly over the children and guests. Glitter fell from the sky.
All the children screamed with delight as the owl flew past them. Sarah could hear the screams and was curious to look out the curtain. But she would not dare be so unprofessional. She tried to keep her calm and wits about her.
The owl disappeared into thin air and everyone gasped. Sarah came out with her fake dog and began to recite her scenes. She was up to the part when she wishes her brother away and then there were little shadows everywhere. Sarah became frightened by their autencity. The children screamed as they could feel little hairy things running amongst them. Some where even about to cry. Just then the a burst of air exploded into the room and glitter flew everywhere and there he stood. Jareth, looking dead into Sarah’s eyes. The crowd gasped as they see this site.
Sarah stood pale almost ready to faint into the crowd. “You are him? Aren’t you?”She could barely whimper out.
‘Oh, it’s him isn’t it? Or is it me?’ Sarah was still in disbelief.
‘Why my dear you still look the same. Except now there seems to be more fear in your eyes.’ Jareth thought enjoying every single second of this moment.
All the story was played out until the last part where Sarah was supposed to tell Jareth that he had no power over her. Sarah could not remember what her lines were. And Sarah only looked deep into Jareth’s mismatched eyes and swallowed deep. “You , you have no, you no. ”
He looked at her content and smiled and whispered,”You have no power over me my sweet.”
And Sarah cleared her throat and said,”You have no power over me.”
The children clapped and the parents stood up loving the show just as well. Sarah could not stand it any longer.
Sarah ran to the bathroom and locked herself up in a booth. Katrice followed her and asked her what was going on. “Boy Sarah, those were some good special effects where did you get them? And where did that hunk come from. Did you see how he moved those crystals around his hands? He has been the best Jareth so far. I am going to see if he wants to be the permanent Jareth. He is perfect for it!”
Sarah only sighed and cried silently. Afraid of what had just happened.
“Katrice please handle everything, I don’t feel good. I am going home.”
Katrice assured her she would and Sarah almost ran out of there wanting to avoid Jareth.
When she arrived home she was tired felt helpless.
‘What was he doing there? What does he want? Oh he scares me so.’
She sighed and just as she was throwing her coat onto her couch she saw Jareth sitting next to the other couch just smiling at her with that sly smile that made her shutter.
“What are you doing here? Jareth what do you want?”
Jareth stood up closing ground between both of them. “I just wanted to see how my biggest adversary was doing. After all you are the only one has solved the Labyrinth. I wanted to see for myself what the great Sarah was up to?”
He stopped right infront of her as she stood still almost breathless. Jareth looked deep into her hazel eyes trying to read what she was thinking.
‘Oh you precious thing you still look beautiful. Your age has only made you more interesting. Your eyes read so many things. Why do you still haunt me so?’
Sarah swallowed and tried to compose herself. She broke the stare down looking down and walked away.
“Well Jareth , you ‘ve seen what you wanted. Now I think it’s time that you leave.”
Jareth smiled crookedly and walked past her waving his hand and making her cd player play music. ‘Endless Love’ was playing and Sarah stood still remembering how Jareth used to declare his love for her before. Through music.
‘My love there is only you in my life.
The only thing that’s right.
My first love your every breathe that I make.
Your every step I take.
And I I want to share all my life with you. No one else will do. Cause your eyes, your eyes your eyes they tell me how much you care. Oh yes, you will always be Endless Love………
Sarah stood still almost shaking as Jareth approached asking her to dance,”I will leave after we finish our dance.”
Sarah hypnotized abliged. They danced to the song and next thing Sarah knows the whole room is spinning and they are back at the ballroom dance again except this time their are no courtiers around them. She is dressed in her white dress and the song continues.
‘Two hearts, two hearts that beat as one. Our lives have just begun. And forever, hmmm I’ll hold you close in my arms I can’t resist your charms oh and love I’ll be that fool for you. I’m sure you will always be my endless love. ‘
Sarah is entranced when all of a sudden she hears a distant ringing. She turns around and she hears a distinctive ringing.
She snaps out of her enchantment and says outloud,”It’s the phone! It must be Ryan!”
Everything went back to normal and Jareth stood there shaking in anger.
Sarah ran to the phone not looking back and answered the phone. “Hi Ryan, I knew it was you. No I’m not busy.” She said as she turned around and looked at Jareth. “No I’m ok I was just tired.”
Jareth looked at the twinkle in her eye as she spoke to Ryan and he could not stand it as he looked at her intensely and disappeared.
“Wait hold on Ryan,” she covered the phone and looked around,”Jareth, Jareth? She shrugged her shoulders and kept on talking to Ryan.
