The Oscars Nominations have been announced and I really can’t complain – other than no Star Trek. It seems like a pretty balanced group this year. The Hurt Locker and Avatar had the most nominations with nine each – most of them in the technical categories. I’ll have a commentary later today or tomorrow for now here are the nominations:

Best Picture

“District 9”; the animated comedy “Up”; the World War II saga “Inglourious Basterds“; the football drama “The Blind Side”; the recession tale “Up in The Air,” the 1960s drama “A Serious Man,” and the teen tales “An Education” and “Precious: Based on the Novel `Push‘ By Sapphire.”

Best Actor

Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart,” George Clooney for “Up in the Air,” Colin Firth in “A Single Man,” Morgan Freeman for “Invictus” and Jeremy Renner in “The Hurt Locker.”

Best Actress

Sandra Bullock for “The Blind Side,” Helen Mirren in “The Last Station,” Carey Mulligan for “An Education,” Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious” and Meryl Streep for “Julie & Julia
