TELEVISION: American Idol Recap (03.24.10)

And then there were 10…or soon will be.  Another IDOL contestant is about to bite the dust and being booted tonight is big!!!  Only the Top 10 go on the road on the IDOL tour.  It’s a paycheck and a chance to build a fan base.  Tonight is not the night to go.  Sadly, after last night’s horrendous performance, I predicted that Paige Miles (pictured) would be going home tonight.  I just don’t know how she survives after that performance.  It really was absolutely horrible and the sad part is that she can really sing.  She has huge potential as Simon has pointed out, but she just has not connected with the type of singer she wants to be and her song selection has been very poor.

Also coming up tonight, a performance by this week’s mentor, Miley Cyrus, as well as a duet from Joe Jonas and his new gal pal, Demi Lovato.  On with show and as always, if you live on the West Coast, I’m about to reveal all… AFTER THE JUMP.

OH GOD HELP US!  The group performance is back.  Tonight it’s Wham’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.”  It sounds like a cruise ship performance.  At one point, DiDi Benami nearly falls down.  It can’t be from the difficult choreography.  IDOL producers, please get rid of this ridiculous weekly number.  It reminds me of the Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

After a break, it’s time for another Ford music video shoot.  Yet, another time waster.

Ryan chats it up with several of the contestants and kills even more time before saying, “Let’s cut to the chase.”  We’re 15 minutes in, dude.  We’re beyond the chase.

On with the results…

Siobhan Magnus — Ryan stretches it out, but Siobhan is first to find out that she is safe.

Lee DeWyze and Casey James — I think both of these guys are safe, but Ryan makes them wait.

Tim Urban and Paige Miles — Both were bad.   Ryan reveals that both are in the bottom three, but then goes to commercial break without saying a word about Lee or Casey!   BAD MOVE!!

Back from the break, Ryan reveals that next week’s theme is Soul/R&B with celebrity mentor Usher!  That will be a good show.  Miley Cyrus then comes on stage to screech her song “When I Look At You.”  Talk about pitch issues.  Miss Cyrus is not a great live singer.  Eeek.

Time for more results.

Aaron Kelly — No brainer.  He’s safe.

DiDi Benami — We get into a long discussion b/c DiDi says she’s confused by all the conflicting advice.  Simon says she needs to pick a good song and give it her all.  DiDi says, “I can’t hear you.”  Simon says he’ll talk to her after the show.  Ryan then says she is safe.

Michael Lynche —  Also safe. No brainer.

Crystal Bowersox — Also safe. No brainer.

Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia —  I think Andrew is in the bottom three.  I’m wrong though.  Katie is in the bottom three.

The bottom three is Tim Urban, Paige Miles and Katie Stevens.  But just as quickly as she got there, Ryan tells her she is safe.  It’s Paige and Tim and I still think Paige is going home.

Up next, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato.  Great (That’s sarcasm).  I don’t think the jewelry on Demi’s hands is big enough.  This performance is so laughable.  It is so completely over the top and honestly neither one of them could cut it on IDOL.  The song is also totally hideous like one of those IDOL finale songs.  At least it’s over quickly.

A quick break and we find out who is going home.

And the person who must now sing for their life is…Paige Miles.  No surprise there.  The surprise is that even though Paige sings, before she does, Simon tells her they will not save her.  The judges usually wait until after the song to say that.  Simon says, “There is no hope.”  The sad part is that her final song was pretty damn good!!  Bye, Paige.  I hope to see you again one day.

That’s it for this week.  Next week..Usher and Soul/R&B!  Until then…I’m out!
