TELEVISION: American Idol Recap (02.25.10)

Tonight begins my least favorite of the Idol shows…the results show.  Idol producers have to stretch a 5 minute announcement into one hour.  So let the waiting begin.  Tonight 4 people are going home, the two guys and two gals with the lowest votes.  We’ll also be treated to performances by former Idol winner Kris Allen and former Idol contestant Allison Irahita (pictured).  On with the full results show, after the jump.

The shows begins with the ubiquitous group song and tonight it was “American Boy.”  I HATE the group performances.  They are never good.  They remind me of cruise ship performances.  It gets even worse when they try to add choreography.  After nine years you would think they would have figured out that this was cheesy, but no.

A commercial break and we begin with the ladies.

Siobhan Magnus – is safe.

Haeley Vaughn – is safe.

Michelle Delamor – is safe.

Katelyn Epperly – is safe.

Katie Stevens & Janell Wheeler – JANELL IS OUT!  Katie is safe.  Janell then performs for us one last time.  This has always boggled my mind.  She was a low vote getter and voted off b/c people didn’t like her performance, so let’s see her one more time.  Huh?

Anyhow, one down.  Three to go.

Another break and back with former Idol finalist Allison Iraheta who performs her new single, “Scars.”  Allison proves you don’t have to win Idol to be a success.  Okay, Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry did that first, but she’s good and deserves her success.  It’s a solid song and I see it doing well on the radio, iTunes, etc.  As sweet as she is, she is still an awkward interview.

In any case, more eliminations.

Paige Miles – is safe.

Lacey Brown – is also safe.  That is shocking to me b/c her performance was horrendous.

Lilly Scott – is safe.

Crystal Bowersox – is safe.

Ashley Rodriguez and DiDi Benami – ASHLEY IS OUT.  DiDi is safe.

I am 1 for 2 in my ladies predictions.  I really thought Lacey was going home, but I completely understand why Ashley is going home.  Her performance of “Happy” was simply not good.  That’s a shame because I thought she had a lot of potential.

After a quick commercial break, we’re back with the guys and it’s elimination time for half of them.  Here we go…

Michael Lynche – is safe.  No brainer there.

John Park – is safe.  Another shocker b/c he was not good last night.

Aaron Kelly – is safe.

Todrick Hall – is safe.

Tim Urban and Joe Munoz – Tim is safe.  JOE IS OUT!  I really wanted to see more from Joe.  That’s sad.

A quick break and we come back to a performance from reigning Idol Kris Allen.  He performs “Let It Be” as a fundraiser for Haiti.  You can download the song from iTunes and all proceeds go to Haiti Relief.  “Idol Gives Back” this year will also benefit Haiti.  As for Kris’ performance, it feels like the music is overpowering him.  The piano is too loud and Kris is playing the guitar, but we can’t even hear it.

A quick break and we are back for the final eliminations.

Casey James – is safe.

Jermaine Sellers – is safe.

Lee DeWyze – is safe.

Andrew Garcia – is safe.  No surprise there.

Tyler Grady and Alex Lambert – TYLER IS OUT.  Alex is safe.

I am 0 for 2 in the guy predictions,, but I am fine with the choices.

Next week the Top 20 tackle the Billboard chart once again.  Until then, MENDHEIM OUT.
