Hot Pursuit: Not Quite a Female Midnight Run!

UTC_5-19-14_01583.CR2

Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon plays the wife of a would-be snitch and the buttoned-down cop sent to escort her to trial. When two different pairs of assassins kill the husband, the two women go on the run.

Despite terrific chemistry between Vergara and Witherspoon (whose production company developed the film), Hot Pursuit only hits on about one gag out of every eight and runs some of its most unfunny jokes into the ground. Continue reading Hot Pursuit: Not Quite a Female Midnight Run!

Run All Night Squanders Its Talented Cast!

RUN ALL NIGHT

Shawn McGuire is a former crime boss who has gone legit. Jimmy Conlon is his former button man who drinks to kill the memory of the faces of those he killed for Shawn. Shawn still keeps him around – takes care of him, really – because of their deep friendship.

That all ends when Jimmy kills Shawn’s son – a true dirtbag – to keep from killing his own son. Cue endless chases, fights and gunplay.

Cold War Deja Vu Trailer: The Man From U.N.C.L.E.!

D3S_1223.DNG

Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin – names to conjure with. The former the best agent for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement; the latter the youngest and best agent to join the KGB in its history. The two became the best partnership in espionage circles in the classic series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. – portrayed by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

Now, Guy Ritchie – he of darkly twisted crime films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and the steampunky resurrection of Sherlock Holmes – has adapted the series for film by updating it and setting it firmly in… the sixties.

Now we have Henry (Superman) Cavill as Solo and Armie (The Lone Ranger) Hammer as Kuryakin – but the basic situation remains much the same. The only question is this: what’s U.N.C.LE. got to do with it? As the movie’s first trailer shows, the pairing looks awfully good. Check it out after the jump. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. opens on August 14th.

Otherworldy Trailer: Ryan Gosling’s LostRiver!

lost-river-film-ryan-gosling

Wow! I’ve just seen the trailer for Ryan Gosling’s debut as a filmmaker – he writes and directs – and it is something else entirely: eerie, otherworldly, downright strange. In a good way. Nicolas Winding Refn strange – as opposed to Uwe Boll strange.

It’s called Lost River (formerly How To Catch a Monster) and is described as a ‘dark fairy ale.’ The cast includes Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Ian de Caestecker, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes and Ben Mendelsohn. Lost River will be in theaters and on VOD on April 10th. Check out the trailer after the jump.

magic-mike

One of the more surprising hits of the last couple years, Magic Mike – loosely based on Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper – was not only a great little indie, it performed like a blockbuster. Obviously a sequel was called for.

Today, Warner Bros. released the first teaser trailer for Magic Mike XXL. Check it out after the jump. Magic Mike XXL opens on July 1st.

Inherent Vice: Paul Thomas Anderson’s Psychedelic Mystery Tour!

INHERENT VICE

Inherent Vice is a twisty mystery that fuses old school PI movies with the psychedelia of the late sixties and early seventies. The point of fusion is the lead character, Larry ‘Doc’ Sportello, a private eye who always – at a minimum – half baked (and usually full on stoned) but somehow manages to be more on the ball than anyone else.

New And Yet Oddly Familiar Trailer: Entourage!

Entourage Cast

Warner Bros. has released the first teaser trailer for the film sequel to HBO’s hit comedy series, Entourage.

E, Turtle, Drama and leader Vince are back – along with temper tantrum-throwing agent Ari – with cameos from Mark Wahlberg and Ronda Rousey. But the highlight has to be the trailer-within-a-trailer for Vince’s new movie (from the producers of Medellin and Aquaman!) that gets things started.

Check it out following the jump. Entourage will open on June 5, 2015.

Pan 1-sheet - Peter

We all know the story of Peter Pan – whether it be through J.M. Barrie’s novel or Disney – or at least we think we do. In fact, we know the story of the Darling children’s encounter with Peter Pan. Starring newcomer Levi Miller as Peter, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily and Garrett Hedlund as Hook, Pan will be in theaters, in 3D, on July 17, 2015. Check out the first trailer after the jump.
