Samantha Mathis’ Staten Island Councilwoman Justine Faraldo made a very impressive debut on FX’s hit series The Strain (Sundays, 10/9C) in the second season’s second episode – calling out the mayor of New York City; declaring Staten Island a infection-free zone and putting dead vampires on horrific display. This is a woman who is not to be trifled with!

Earlier this week, Mathis took some time from her shooting schedule to speak with a group of bloggers/journalist about Faraldo and the possibilities that lie ahead for her.

Writer/creater Chuck Hogan chats about FX’s The Strain

Chuck Hogan The Strain premiere 9-28-14

Executive producer/writer Chuck Hogan wrote the original vampire trilogy “The Strain” with executive producer/writer/director Guillermo del Toro.  The Strain was the first book in 2009 followed by The Fall (2010) and The Night Eternal (2011).  In 2012, FX ordered a pilot episode of the tv adaptation of the book.  And the rest is history.  Chuck Hogan talks about the progression from book to tv . . .

The Strain’s Kevin Durand on His Stoic Exterminator Hero!

THE STRAIN -- Pictured: Kevin Durand as Vasiliy Fet. CR. Frank Ockenfels/FX

The Strain’s (FX, Season Finale Tonight, 10/9C) Kevin Durand is probably best known for playing villains – like Lost’s Martin Christopher Keamy – though he always brings something interesting to roles that fall on the positive side. The Strain’s Vasiliy Fet is one of the most interesting characters he ever played – smart, educated, a good judge of character and definitely a man who likes to work alone – yet recognizing when it’s a good idea to work in a group.

The day after last week’s episode, Durand spoke with a group of journalists/bloggers about playing Fet – everything from Fet’s appraisal of Dutch and Epraim, to the way his accent subtly alters depending on who he’s around (more Ukraine with his parents; more New York in a bar getting a drink). He doesn’t just sound like he’s excited to talk about the show and his character, he says exactly that. The result is a lot of fun.

Showrunner Carlton Cuse chats about The Strain

Carlton Cuse The Strain 9-28-14

Producer/screenwriter Carlton Cuse first read “The Strain” horror book trilogy in 2009 and became an instant fan.  When he was approached by  Guillermo del Toro to adapt the book series for tv, it was an absolute yes. However, this was not going to be just another vampire tv show.  It was unique in itself.  Months were spent in preparation for the pilot, and shooting of the series before premiering in July 13,2014.  Carlton talks about how “The Strain”, just like “Indiana Jones And the Last Crusade”,  is an adventure story–with horror elements.

Guillermo del Toro chats about The Strain

Guillermo Del Toro The Strain BTS 9-25-14

In 2009, Guillermo del Toro joined forces with Chuck Hogan and published the first installment of the vampire horror trilogy “The Strain”.  Fast forward to July 13, 2014, where the  first episode of “The Strain” premieres on FX.  Sunday night tv at 10 pm was occupied with vampires that eerily enough, seek those they love. With Del Toro’s success as a director, writer, producer, and novelist, and his eye for details, it was not a surprise that “The Strain” was a summer success.
