Gamechanger.  NIKITA returns tonight after several weeks’ hiatus to an explosive (literally) and truly outstanding episode titled “Covenants” that can easily be labeled a ‘gamechanger’ among many other positive adjectives.  Even if you have not been following this new Nikita very closely, you can easily treat yourself as a viewer to a most entertaining, emotional, and exciting hour.  All elements come together adeptly and beautifully: the writing, directing, production, action, and filming.  And the twists, turns, and revelations move the story forward in a frenetic yet satisfying manner.

Those of us attending WonderCon this past weekend had the pleasure of seeing the full episode a full week before tonight’s official return.  One thing that gave me particular joy was seeing the auditorium nearly full.  Sadly, that was not due to everyone’s interest in Nikita, but to their desire to secure a seat for the “Doctor Who” panel to follow.  But this gave me joy because all those people now  had  to see Nikita.  And if they were not regular viewers before, then this episode would no doubt have made them into viewers now.  Yes, it was  that  good!  It would truly be a crime if the new incoming CW President does not renew this series for a Season Two.  Excellent writing, compelling characters, talented and charismatic actors, outstanding action sequences… what more could you ask for other than a few more ratings point perhaps.

Comments and spoilers after the jump.  And dare I say it for all the die-hard fans? … “Mi-kita” alert!!

Yes, Michael Rosenbaum has succumbed to the pleas, entreaties and, possibly, threats from Smallville fans and will, indeed, appear in the series finale.

According to deadline.com’s Nellie Andreeva, Rosenberg is quoted as saying, ‘I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is," he said. "I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. Ha ha. I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again….. Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he’s destined to be.’

I sure I’m not alone in saying, ‘Woo-hoo!’

smallville-season-10

When Smallville premiered ten years ago, the series creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar promised two things: no flights and no tights. From the series beginning, the intention was to end the series with Clark Kent becoming Superman. On May 13, 2001, Smallville closes its ten-year run with a two-hour finale.

Some thoughts from the press release for the finale follow the jump.

The hit CW action series Supernatural which revolves around storylines regarding the heroic but angst ridden monster hunting/demon fighting brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, is having a very good day today. After six seasons of being a cult audience favorite, the series won it’s first ever TV Guide cover which prominently features Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) the two handsome and highly talented stars of the series (read the Eclipsemagazine article by Liana Bekakos for the full story).

This Friday, December 10th, Supernatural will air its final first run episode of season 6 before the holidays bring us into reruns. Supernatural S6.11 is titled Appointment in Samarra. In keeping with the good day feeling for the series, the CW Network has released some photos from the upcoming episode to share with fans and viewers alike.

Before we move on to take a look at the photos, I would like to share a few of my thoughts about season 6 of Supernatural.

SUPERNATURAL

Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) got ‘vamped’ and his brother Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) stood by and allowed it to happen.

That has got to be the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen on Supernatural. But, it’s also the first time in a long while that an episode of this hit action series has put me on the edge of my seat. I liked that!

Yes, I like the kind of brotherly interaction that Supernatural started out with. I really don’t want to see them at odds with each other for the rest of the run of the series like they have been since season 3. Yet I have to admit I really like season 6 so far and S6.05 Live Free or Twi-Hard was the kind of thrill ride I like in an action series. I liked Dean’s struggle not to succumb to becoming a monster and to hold onto his humanity. His scenes with Lisa and Ben were heartbreaking and Jensen Ackles hit it out of the ball park again with yet another variation on Dean’s life as a hunter.

In all of the recent interviews done with Jared Padalecki and the writers about the new direction for Sam Winchester in season six of Supernatural, they all talked about how he has abandoned his quest for living a normal life and has embraced the ways of being a hunter. They talked about Sam having a harder edge to him and being more like first season Dean Winchester I.e. kill the monster first and ask questions later. I like how Jared Padalecki has approached playing this new incarnation of Sam Winchester. He has infused the character with an interesting sort of emotional detachment. He has also made some changes to Sam’s body language to a certain degree. Whereas, to me Sam used to have some uncertainty and hesitation in him, now he approaches a hunt with the assurance of a cat stalking its prey. In S6.05 Live Free or Twi-Hard, the writers showed us that Sam is really nothing like he’s ever been before and even more like a great cat on the hunt. It was chilling to watch him just stand there with this look of mild curiosity on his face as he let his brother become bait for a trap to catch the alpha Vampire.

Grandpa Samuel Campbell (Mitch Pileggi) is seriously starting to get on my nerves as a character. The whole ‘the Campbell’s are the best thing in hunterdom since sliced bread’ attitude is grating. Not to mention that there seems to be a concerted effort by the writers to denigrate John Winchester’s contributions to his son’s skills as hunters. I want Dean to give Samuel a good ‘don’t be talking trash about my dad’ slap down like he does everyone else because Samuel deserves  to be reminded that John Winchester was a hunter too and good one.

S6.05 Live Free or Twi-Hard was fun ride that, like I said, kept me on the edge of my seat and it made me remember why I loved watching this show in the first place. Tomorrow’s episode, S6.06 You Can’t Handle the Truth looks like it’s going to be a rocking one too. Sneak Peak look at it after the jump.
