Mel Brooks is a legend; Conan O’Brien may be well on his way to becoming one. When the two have an eighty-minute conversation on O’Brien’s excellent web series, Serious Jibber-Jabber, the result is a one of a kind gem that illustrates O’Brien’s interviewing skills and both men’s wit and intelligence.

Some of Hollywood’s best storytellers are developing projects for Turner networks TBS and TNT to add to their already deep bench of quality new and returning shows for 2013-14. Steven Spielberg, Steve Carell, Diablo Cody, Denis Leary, Sylvester Stallone, Dick Wolf, Nicholas Sparks, Marcia Clark, Dee Johnson, Walt Becker, Jamie Foxx and James Duff are developing series that range from Dick Wolf’s intriguing unscripted Cop Swap (two law enforcement professionals swap lives to help learn how to be better officers, partners and citizens of the law) to Portal House (a group of young scientists examining a haunted house discover a portal through the time-space continuum).
New series for TNT include: King & Maxwell, The Hero, 72 Hours and Cold Justice. Returning shows include: Fallings Skies, Franklin & Bash, Major Crimes, Perception and Rizzoli & Isles.

TBS has picked up Ground floor, a new workplace comedy with a romantic twist, from Cougar town’s Bill Lawrence and How I Met your Mother’s Gregg Mailins. The premise finds hotshot banker Brody thinking he’s had a one-stand with Jennifer then discovering that she works in the maintenance department of the building he works in. The series stars Pitch Perfect’s Skyler Austin as Brody, Cougar Town’s Briga Heelan as Jennifer and Scribs/Burn Notice vet John C. McGinley as Brody’s boss, Mr. Mansfield.
Cougar Town began as a series about an older woman dating younger men – hence the title – but then turned into this peculiar and specific comedy about finding family not just in blood relatives, but also in the friends made over the years.
After three seasons on ABC, Cougar Town’s ratings had dipped to the point where the show couldn’t be sustained on a major network, but a white knight has arrived to save the series. Cougar Town’s fourth season will be on TBS – the Turner network that is based on comedy.

TBS trounces network late night talk shows with its premiere of Conan! The gangly redhead with his fresh-from-my-live-tour beard drew 4.2 million viewers for his TBS premiere which was, yes, very funny. Even better, of that 4.2 million, 3.3 million were adults 18-49. By comparison, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno drew a total of 3.5 million viewers with a mere 950,000 in the 18-49 demographic. Meanwhile, The Late Show with David Letterman reached a total of 3.4 million, with 1.3 million in the 18-49 demo.
Conan also benefited George Lopez Tonight, which beat both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report in total viewers and all demos
It will be interesting to see if Conan can maintain this audience – but even if there’s as much as a 50% drop in ratings [as happened in his second week on The Tonight Show], he will still be giving TBS a triple-digits ratings increase in the timeslot. If he holds his audience, it will be the biggest shake-up in late night ratings, ever – and one of the biggest in basic cable vs. networks.
here’s something I’ve been waiting to share with all of you Conan O’Brien fans out there. Since his unpleasant departure from NBC and now joining the “Very Funny” network TBS, Conan has finally shot a promo for his new show coming in November. Conan gets into a car filled with explosives and un-poped popcorn and drives it off a cliff. This promo was just released hours ago. Personally I love the promo and enjoy watching it over and over. I stongly believe his new show on TBS will be hit. The only bad thing is that his long time drummer Max Weinberg will not be on the show but I’m still anxious to see how the show will turn out.
