The CW Network made an early announcement of the renewal of five of their top series. Returning for the 2011 Fall television season on the CW will be The Vampire Diaries, 90210, Gossip Girl, America’s Next Top Model and the Friday night action series Supernatural.
In moving to Fridays last September, Supernatural, which stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, immediately helped make The CW more competitive on the night and dramatically contributed to year-to-year gains on Friday of 66% in adults 18-34 and 60% in viewers. Supernatural, which is currently in it’s sixth season, also made it onto not one, but two TV Guide Fan Favorite covers this season. The series, about two monster hunting, demon fighting brothers, continues to gain popularity, new fans and viewers.

TRUST YOUR DOCTOR. Doctor Who, the longest-running TV sci-fi series, is coming to America tonight! And I’m not just referring to the premiere episode that will be airing at 9pm on BBC. The team is actually coming to America… as in Utah.
The spectacular two-part season premiere kicks off tonight with Part one, “The Impossible Astronaut.” The mysterious time traveler, the Doctor [Matt Smith], and his companions Amy [Karen Gillan] and Rory [Arthur Darvill], find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah – right to the Oval Office in 1969. The two-parter is penned by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Jekyll). It will also feature guest star Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Leverage, Battlestar Galactica) and Alex Kingston (ER, Flash Forward) returns as the irrepressible River Song and the new season features an episode written by Neil Gaiman.
Earlier this month, fans were gathered bright and early outside of the Moscone Center in San Francisco in order to ensure their entrance, and were eagerly awaiting the presentation of the Doctor Who panel at WonderCon. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend and bring you these highlights.

The CW’s Friday night men of action are back from Spring break and ready to take on more adventures, meeting their destiny and their fates head on!
It’s been a long wait for the return of The CW hit long running action series’ Smallville and Supernatural to come back from their short hiatus This Friday night, the waiting is over as Clark Kent (Tom Welling), Lois Lane (Erica Durance) and Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) come back to finish out the 10th and final season of Smallville. Right behind them are Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) to deal with more twists and turns as season 6 plays out.

TV Guide Magazine has come to realize that the Nielsen Ratings doesn’t always give a true picture of which TV shows are fan favorites. That’s why they chose to give the fans a voice in showing their appreciation for their favorites. TV Guide ran a poll, the fans voted and some of the winners are:
Castle, The Big Bang Theory, Dancing with the Stars, Chuck and Supernatural. Congratulations to Jensen Ackles for winning best actor , Misha Collins for winning best Non-Human Character and Timothy Dalton for winning Best Villain.

I had the opportunity to chat with Mark Sheppard, the ubiquitous actor, as part of the press event during this past weekend’s WonderCon. Although he was attending in conjunction with his upcoming appearance on Doctor Who, I tried my best to divert his attention to Supernatural. Of course, this was no easy task considering that Mark prefers to keep a shroud of mystery surrounding all his appearances. After all, this is the man who insists that his name not be used in the opening credits for fear that viewers reading it will then know in advance that his character will be making an appearance! Getting a straight answer from Mark is almost as challenging as getting a straight answer out of Misha Collins, who appears as the angel Castiel on Supernatural and entertains followers with a hilarious Twitter account (@MishaCollins). Unfortunately due to time constraints, we had less than five minutes to present questions to this personable, funny, and engaging actor.

History will be made this summer when Supernatural: The Anime Series is released in the U.S. as the first-ever live-action series to be re-imagined in Japanese anime style. World renowned anime studio Madhouse is the creative force responsible for recreating the popular Warner Brothers television series currently airing Fridays at 9:00pm on The CW. The all-new, 22-episode animated series will be distributed July 26, 2011 by Warner Home Video on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as On Demand and for Download. Order due date is June 21, 2011. The hit CW/Warner Bros. action series Supernatural is coming up on it’s 6th season finale, which will air on May 20th. According to recent updates to the episode information on The Internet Movie Database, the two-hour episode titled The Haunter In The Dark has some interesting surprises in the first hour of the episode.
The first surprise in first hour of The Haunter In The Dark is that it was not only written by series creator Eric Kripke, but also lists actor Jensen Ackles as a writer as well. Ackles is best known in Supernatural as the actor who plays older brother Dean Winchester opposite Jared Padalecki who plays younger brother Sam Winchester. This isn’t the first time that Jensen Ackles has branched out his resume in Supernatural. Earlier in season six, he made his directorial debut in the S6.4 episode Weekend At Bobby’s. It’s not certain at this time how much of the first part of Haunter In The Dark that Jensen Ackles is responsible for writing, but it is a sure bet that it will be the same kind of top notch work that fans and viewers have come to expect from this talented man.
The second, and probably the biggest surprise of all, is that actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan is listed as starring in The Haunter In The Dark. According to the information on the Internet Movie Database page for the episode, Morgan is reprising his role as Sam and Dean’s father, John Winchester. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has gone on to become a successful movie actor since his last appearance in Supernatural in the S2.1 In My Time of Dying, in which John Winchester traded his soul into hell to save the life of his son Dean and S2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2 in which John’s spirit rises from hell to help his sons defeat the yellow eyed demon. While he was in Vancouver filming his role as the Comedian in The Watchmen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan did some voice over work for Supernatural for the S3.14 episode Long Distance Caller in which Dean believes he is hearing his father’s voice on the telephone.
The Internet Movie Database does not list any synopsis for the Supernatural season 6 two hour finale The Haunter In The Dark, so fans and viewers don’t know yet how the return of John Winchester fits into the episode or how the character, which has been deceased since season 2, will be brought back into the storyline. Guess we will just have to tune in on Friday May 20th at 9 PM EST to find out.
