Studio Ponoc, the animation studio founded by two-time Oscar®-nominee Yoshiaki Nishimura (The Tale of The Princess Kaguya, When Marnie Was There) and featuring many artists from the venerable Studio Ghibli, returns this year with Modest Heroes, an anthology of three tales created by some of the greatest talents working in Japanese animation today.
Modest Heroes will play in select theaters on January 10th & 12th. Check out clips from the three tales below.
GKIDS has acquired North American rights to the first release from Japanese Studio Ponoc – Mary and the Witch’s Flower, directed by Academy Award® nominee Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty, When Marnie Was There).
Mary and the Witch’s Flower is based on Mary Stewart’s 1971 children’s book, “The Little Broomstick,” and features a script by Riko Sakaguchi. The story centers on an ordinary young girl named Mary, who discovers a flower that grants magical powers, but only for one night.
Mary and the Witch’s Flower will be released in theaters this winter.
