If you happen to be in NYC, tomorrow, June 2, 2017 head down to the historic Shubert Alley at 44th street for one of my favorite events of the year Broadway Stars In The Alley. It’s a annual free concert put on by the Broadway Alliance. Featuring performances from over 20 different Broadway shows including Groundhog Day, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Get on Your Feet, School of Rock and more. It’s really just an excuse to have a free public dress rehearsal ahead of next week’s Tony Awards. I’m busing up to NYC to catch this event and will have a bunch of cool interviews. Check out this amazing list of talent that’s going to be on hand.
One of my favorite events of the years is Broadway’s Stars In The Alley. Every year for the last few years, the Broadway League puts on a free outdoor concert. The 2 hour event is sort of an unofficial dress rehearsal for the Tony Awards and features appearances and performances from over 30 different Broadway shows. The event is held Friday, June 3rd, in the historic Shubert Alley on West 44th, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, rain or shine.
The nice thing is, it’s usually a well organized event and normally starts on time, so get there early! This year’s participants include performances from the cast of Something Rotten, The Color Purple, Get On Your Feet and more. The cast of Hamilton will make an appearance as well, although not performing. Here’s a full list.
If you happen to be in NYC this Wednesday, this is a friendly reminder that the Broadway League’s newly annual Broadway’s Stars in the Alley is happening from 10:30 – 12:30 rain or shine in the Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets. Guess I have to get a Junior’s Cheesecake and since I’m going to be there, you just know it’s going to rain. Grrr…. But it’s one of my favorite events of the year. Where else are you going to see 19 of the top Broadway shows performing in an outdoor concert for free? Hosted by Hedwig and the Angry Inch star Darren Christ it’s a celebration of Broadway and a non-official rehearsal for the Tony Awards which airs June 7th.
One of my favorite events of the year is the Broadway League’s “Stars In The Alley event. It’s a free event where most of the active musicals on Broadway put on a free concert for the public in the alley by NYC’s famed Shubert Theatre. Over 15 shows are participating in this event making it a great way to get a taste of the best of Broadway. It’s sort of a preview/dress rehearsal for the Tony Awards – without the pomp. The full line-up for this year’s show, hosted by Hedwig and the Angry Inch Star Darrin Criss is below.
