I know everyone is hating on Rhianna’s new Star Trek Beyond theme Sledgehammer but I kind of dig it. The brand new music video hit the webs today. Isn’t it redundant to play the trailer before the video? Check it out if you dare.
It’s the middle of the summer, which means lots of big budget blockbusters are about to hit screens! As such, GeekScholars Movie News is ready to reveal their Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office Predictions for July 2016 including:
The Secret Life of Pets
Star Trek: Beyond
Plus, the hosts discuss whether or not Darth Vader returning in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a good thing, and if Steven Spielberg should reference his own movies in Ready Player One.
I don’t know what the haters are whining about, so far everything I’ve seen from Star Trek: Beyond looks pretty darn awesome. Looking forward to this one. Check out this new trailer. On the one hand the Rhianna song, doesn’t quite fit, but the overall trailer is pretty haunting and well done.
Remember the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond? The one that was a whirlwind of action with only pauses for a couple pithy remarks? Remember how a lot of Trekkers complained that it looked like Beyond was going to be Fast and Furious in space?
The new trailer puts all that action into context – with Captain James T. Kirk facing a bit of an existential crisis, and a brief flurry of Spock/Bones debate. It’s as if Paramount Pictures was aware of how fans would react to the first trailer thus setting up this more typically Trek trailer.
This is a superb second trailer. Check it out after the break. Star Trek Beyond opens on July 22nd.
Star Trek fans around the world have been challenged to ‘go beyond’ for the opportunity to attend a one-of-a-kind fan event in honor of the franchise’s 50th Anniversary.
Beginning today through Friday, May 6th, fans can submit a 50-second video sharing how Star Trek inspired them to ‘go beyond.’ Each day the best 50 entries will be selected to receive a ticket to the Star Trek Fan Event on May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood. The highest judged video of each day will be awarded the grand prize, a fully paid trip to the event.
The one-time-only event will include the premiere of the newest Star Trek Beyond trailer, an exclusive first-look of never-before-seen footage from the upcoming film, a Q&A with director Justin Lin and the cast and crew, special guest appearances, and other surprises. For details, follow the jump.

Here it is: the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond! (And the preliminary poster – as seen at MIPCOM.)
With Justin Lin at the helm the franchise had definitely moved into an even more action-orientated stance but the character s still feel right and there are some great moments – Dr. McCoy’s ‘That’s just typical!’ among them.
Other than a look at a new alien species, most of the trailer is action beats and one-liners. It looks like fun, but in the newly established J.J.Abrams tradition, there’s not much in the way of plot spoilers.
So far, though, it looks like it could be great fun (fingers crossed!). Check it out after the break. Star Trek Beyond opens on July 22, 2016.
