Over the last few years, Tim Matheson, best known for playing Eric in the original Animal House, has become a fixture on USA Network shows. Besides directing episodes of Psych, Burn Notice, White Collar and Covert Affairs [where he directed the pilot, thus setting the tone for the series], Matheson has also guest starred as arrogant bank robber Edward “The Architect” Walker on White Collar and recurred as the charmingly dangerous [or is it dangerously charming?] ex-spy/freelance mercenary, Larry Sizemore over five episodes [so far] on Burn Notice. Little known fact: Matheson is big on Asian films!

I had the great good fortune to take part in a teleconference Q&A session with the former voice of Jonny Quest [yes, Matheson has done some legendary work] where, because of an unusually small turnout, I was able to ask more than usual couple of questions. Thanks to Matheson’s energy and enthusiasm, it was one of the most enjoyable interview experiences I’ve ever had.

Psych [USA, Wednesdays, 10/9C] returns for its winter premiere tonight – a new night – and minus the lead-in of perennial favorite, Monk, which ended its eight-year run in December. I took part in a teleconference Q&A session with series star James Roday and John Cena, who guest stars in the premiere. Unfortunately, their schedules where such that there was no overlap, so Mr. Cena was onboard for the first twenty minutes, then had to get on an airplane and Mr. Roday joined, us for the last half-hour, from the studio. It was an unusual situation that allowed for some interesting questions.

Also on the call were: Joshua Maloney [Niagara Frontier Publications], David Martindale [Hearst Newspapers], Rosa Cordero [AccidentalSexiness.com], Sammy Torino [TV Grapevine], Troy Rogers [thedeadbolt.com], Kristyn Clark [Pop Culture Madness], Laura Tucker [Small Screen Monthly], Earl Dittman [Wireless Magazine], Lisa Sternberg [Starry Constellation], Whitney Sedgwick [TwoSuns.com], Lena Lamoray [LenaLamoray.com], Travis Tidmore [The CineManiac], Monica Garsky [Flash News], Icess Fernandez, and Martin Sternberg [SmallScreenScoop.com].

USA Network’s original hit series, Psych premiere’s its fourth season this Friday August 7th at 10/9c. Recently I had a chance to participate in a group interview with the stars of the show James Roday and Dulé Hill to discuss the new season, some funny pop culture references and whatever craziness lives in the minds of this funny and talented duo.

EM: You’ve both played very different characters in other things. I know that Mr. Roday had actually played alongside to Maggie Lawson in Fear Itself and Mr. Dulé you had a wonderful part on WEST WING for a while. So how do you feel now about playing comedy? Do you enjoy it better; do you like doing horror or drama more? How does it feel?

Dulé Hill: I actually enjoy comedy; it’s a lot of fun. After doing seven years of drama on WEST WING to be able to come and work with Roday and the rest of the cast has been a blast. It’s something different, especially working with Roday where he likes to improv a lot it challenges me to work on different muscles that I haven’t used before.

James Roday: Well, first of all I just want to thank you for reminding me that I did in fact appear in Fear Itself; I often forget that. Secondly, I would say I’ve actually done a lot more comedy than I’ve done drama. It’s weird the way that worked out, because when I came out of theater school I took myself way too seriously, so it’s kind of ironic that I ended up sort of going down the comedy path.
