The much anticipated television adaptation of Donna Gabaldon’s Outlander novels is set to premiere on Starz on August 9th (9/8C). The series, which follows a married British combat nurse from 1945 who falls back in time to Scotland of 1743, is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”). Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, Tobias Menzies as her husband, Frank, and Sam Heughan as the Scottish warrior who comes to rescue in 1743.

Casting for Outlander, the Ronald D. Moore adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s historical fantasy series for Starz and Sony Pictures Television, is going great guns. It was announced today that Laura Donnelly has nabbed the role of Jenny Frasier – the older sister of the show’s male lead, Jamie Fraser.
For all intents and purposes Jamie’s surrogate mother, Jenny shares his stubborn, quick-tempered character and it’s not all uncommon for the two to butt heads. She runs Lallybroch, the Frasers’ ancestral home, and is married to Jamie’s best friend, Ian Murray. Donnelly is best known for her role as Sarah Kay in the BBC series, The Fall. Lotte Verbeek has been cast as Geillis Duncan – a woman thought to be a witch because of her advanced knowledge of herbs and plants – in Ronald D. Moore’s series adaptation of Outlander for Starz and Sony Pictures TV. Verbeek is best known for her role as Contessa Giulia Farnese on The Borgias.

The pieces of the puzzle continue to fall into place for Starz’s Outlander series as Scottish actors Graham McTavish and Gary Lewis have been cast as Jamie Fraser’s uncles Dougal and Colum McKenzie: key members of the McKenzie clan to whom Sam Heughan’s Jamie Fraser – full name James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser – has yet to swear allegiance as the series begins.

After a much speculation, it’s official – Scottish actor Sam Heughan will play Jamie Fraser in Starz Entertainment’s Outlander series. The series, from Battlestar Galactica’s Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore, is based on Diana Gabaldon’s epic series of bestselling novels.

Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling genre-bending Outlander series is coming to television. Starz entertainment and sony Pictures Television are partnering to produce the show, with an order for 16 episodes. Outlander will begin shooting in Scotland this fall and is being planned for a 2014 premiere. The adaptation is being written by Peabody Award winner Ronald D. Moore, of Battlestar Galactica fame, who will also be an executive producer.
The series follows married combat nurse Claire Randall, who is ‘mysteriously swept back in time to 1743’ from 1945 and thrown into a world where her life is threatened – which leads to her marriage to Jamie Fraser which, in turn, tears her heart between two loves in two radically different times.
