Baz Luhrmann Goes Hip-Hop Sizzle Reel: The Get Down!

Get Down, The - Cast

It’s quite a leap from Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby to the South Bronx of the ’70s, but that’s the leap that Baz Luhrmann is taking with Netflix for his firs TV series, The Get Down.

The Get Down is about the birth of outlying music genres – hip hop, punk, disco – and how they changed everything.  Check out the three-minute sizzle reel after the break.

Kinda Desperate Trailer: Fuller House!

Fuller House

Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber flash a few desperate moves to Silento’s Whip/Nae Nae as a flash card cries, ‘The party’s at our house’ in the second teaser for Netflix’s Fuller House.

I’m not sure that was the smartest move, but you can decide for yourself by following the jump. Fuller House dances onto Netflix on February 26th.

A Very Murray Christmas Is a Christmas Treat!

A-Very-Murray-Christmas-2

A Very Murray Christmas is a sweetly melancholy hour that gives us both sides of the holiday – the happy times with family and friends and the loneliness when they’re not there.

It’s a smart, funny, poignant hour that lets Bill Murray do what he does best – let stuff happen.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones – Shades of Hammett, Chandler and Lee!

Marvels-Jessica-Jones

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is quite possibly the best entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. The series’ first season is liberally sprinkled with the kind of plot and dialogue you might find in the best work of Dashiell Hammett or Philip Chandler – and seasoned with the kind of problematic superheroic action of a Stan Lee (though the actual use of powers is not as overt, for the most part, as with Netflix’s Daredevil series).

Jones is a former superhero (it ended badly for her) who has taken to working as a private investigator in Hell’s Kitchen. She is touchy, tough, paranoid and suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. She can’t stop herself from trying to help innocents who are in trouble, but she hides those impulses under snark, cynicism and a bottle of Wild Turkey (or some other equally vile concoction). If there was a poster person for Damaged Goods Hero, she would be on it.

Only a few days remain until the premiere of season one of Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix, so now’s the perfect time for the release of a trailer that gives us a look at season one’s bad guy, Kilgrave.

David Tennant makes Kilgrave charming and more than a little creepy in the trailer – which is titled All In. Check it out after the jump. Marvel’s Jessica Jones premieres on November 20th.
