Green Lantern Movie

I’ve always been a big fan of Green Lantern so I’m really curious to see what an eventual big screen version will look like. I like the casting of Ryan Reynolds, I’m not being biased because I’ve met him at several times throughout the last 6 years, but I think he’ll be good in the role, although I see him more as Kyle Raynor and not Hal Jordan. Anyway, these days if you are going to be a major Hollywood tent pole you have to also have a big game attached. The folks behind this summer’s upcoming G.I. Joe game and Silent Hill: Homecoming, Double Helix has been tapped by Warner Brothers to create the Green Lantern Game. I’ll hold judgment until I play the G.I. Joe game in August.

Ok, I know this game has been out for a few months now, but give me a break game companies generally send me games about a month after they come out, then I have to get around to playing them, so it takes a bit for me to get a review out. I’ll try and do better in the future, but it is what it is. Let’s start by saying X-Men Origins: Wolverine is one of the best movie based video games to come out in quite awhile, if not ever. This seems to be the year when game companies have finally seemed to grasp how to make a decent licensed based game. Usually Game Developers don’t seem to get the properties they are trying to translate into a game or are so rushed and under the gun that the finished product is usually a half-baked, ill conceived, buggy mess. That’s not the case here, Publisher Activision and Developer Raven Software get Wolverine. He’s not that difficult to understand: he’s angry, has claws, can’t be killed and slices up everything in his path. In short he has all the elements to make a perfect game.

X-Men Wolverine: DLC

In the midst of all the E3 hoopla last week, the folks at Activision released a single player DLC pack for X-Men: Wolverine. It’s pretty neat because it allows you to customize a battle arena and add an unlimited number of opponents to “lunge and plunge” at.  Sounds like it’ll be really cool, but very limited DLC pack that ultimately won’t be worth the 800 points. So far I’m enjoying the heck out of the main game, so added DLC is always welcome.

Watchmen Blu-ray Box Art

I finally sat down, played and beat the Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, video game this weekend. So it was pretty cool to see that they are making a sequel to the game, not only that but the full game Part 1 and 2 will be included in the upcoming Director’s Cut version of The Watchmen Blu-ray release and playable on the PS3. How sweet a package is this shaping up to be? You get the Director’s Cut of the film which includes 25 extra minutes, the full Watchmen Game Experience and Digital Copy! All they need to do is somehow squeeze in the Black Freighter and the bad Motion Comic and that would be quite a Blu-ray package. The game will also be included on the DVD version as well, so I’m assuming that version will be playable on the 360.  Other than being way too dark (fixed once I increased the brightness level) and repetitive, the game is good mindless fun with some really neat beat downs. The Blu-ray and DVD Director’s Cut will hit the streets in July.

I have to say I’m looking more forward to playing the Terminator: Salvation video game than I am to see the movie. The game trailer has all the cool moments and classic terminator music that’s missing from the movie trailer. Check it out.
