Then go see, Transformers – Revenge of The Fallen – in theatres now. Pick up Transformers – The Two Disc Blu-ray Edition – including 25 minutes of all new content - available on June 16th from Paramount Home Entertainment. In celebration of this event, we have 5 copies of the standard edition DVD to give away. The special edition of Transformers is packed with extras (and more than a few product placements for Hasbro). The entire second disc is devoted to featurettes on aspects of making the technical tour-de-force–and the land mines involved in tinkering with a beloved ’80s franchise. Executive producer Steven Spielberg is very much a part of the proceedings, from his introductory comments ("I think everybody likes the idea of taking something you’re familiar with and turning it into something you’re not so familiar with–like an 18-wheeler become Optimus Prime") to mentions of his films that influenced this one, like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Words cannot describe the horrors that was witnessed while watching the latest film from Director Michael Bay. Normally, one would expect to see a great summer blockbuster and a great sequel to boot. Unfortunately, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen fails to impress summer movie audience. With its six acts within two plus hours of boring dialogue, the Bay cliche of blow everything to sky high attitude, emotionless characters, and some twin robots that make you do a double take. The film doesn’t make me go WOW! It makes go HOW LOW can you go.
To cut a long story short. The Autobots have spent the last two years working side by side with the US military to track down remaining Decepticon forces that got away after Megatron was killed in the last movie. But an increased number of Decepticon attacks, plus an ominous warning, has Optimous Prime and the military worried about a coming invasion. Meanwhile, Sam Witwicky (Shia Lebeouf) is off to college, but he immediately stumbles upon a lost sliver of the ‘AllSpark.’ Contact with the artifact causes a flood of Earth and Cybertron knowledge into his head, once again making Sam a target for the Decepticons.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
So, there are sixty-odd robots in Revenge of the Fallen. There’s also one new character of the human variety – at least, one that’s given any substantial screen time. Which should tell you how important the human part of the Transformers sequel is to director Michael Bay.
It’s bad enough that we meet a millennia-old Decepticon called The Fallen [in what has to be the clumsiest retcon I’ve ever seen]; what’s worse is that he’s The Emperor to Megatron’s Darth Vader. Then there’s a shot where a tomb is entered that looks a lot like a shot in Alien, where we first see the alien astronaut with its stomach blown out [though there’s nothing that unsettling in this film – except the thundering bass that seems to be turned up to eleven throughout]. There are a few other quotes/homages/riffs/rip-offs, but they’re not enough to give Revenge of the Fallen a brain.
