First Look: UK Gangster Flick London Boulevard!

In the criminally underseen In Bruges, Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a hitman. In the upcoming London Boulevard – which hits UK screens later this month – he returns to that kind of role as he plays an ex-con turned celebrity bodyguard [Keira Knightley plays the celebrity] whose past [in the form of Ray Winstone’s godfather-like character] won’t leave him be. Think of of it as a UK mash-up of In Bruge, The Godfather and The Bodyguard. It’s also the directorial debut by Academy Award-winning [for The Departed] screenwriter  William Monahan, who also wrote the script. Sounds like a lot of fun to me.

I love Keira Knightley (Cecilia Tallis) but frankly she can’t act and it’s proven once again here. Her face looked strangely like it’s been CGI’ed. There’s the CREEPY friend of her brother, Leon Tallis (played by Patrick Kennedy), a wealthy owner of a Chocolate factory, Paul Marshall (Benedict Cumberbatch) who turns out to be a pedophile. Then there is Cecilia’s creepy looking 13 year old sister Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan), and her visiting cousins, these two curly haired ugly looking kids and their older sister Lola Quincey (Juno Temple) who looked 11 or 12, but they strangely dressed her up to look older. Think Jon Bonnet Ramsey.  Continue reading Atonement fails on almost every level. Michelle Alexandria’s EclipseMagazine.com Movie Review
