Eclipse Magazine presents the GeekScholars Movie News Podcast #055 – Pacino as Paterno, The Future of James Bond, Star Trek 2 Gets a Title, Jim Carrey in Kick Ass 2, Recasting Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Much Much More!

GeekScholars Movie NewsThis episode of the GeekScholars Movie News podcast, quite simply, is awesome. To start, the GeekScholars discuss, and speculate about, the headlines for the week which include the news that Al Pacino will play famed Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in a biopic, Daniel Craig’s future with the James Bond franchise, Star Trek 2‘s newly revealed title, thoughts on the announced Safe House prequel/ sequel, and the addition of Jim Carrey to Kick-Ass 2.

And while all of that sparked some really interesting (and very geeky) conversation, what you absolutely do not want to miss are the crew’s picks for recasting Raiders of the Lost Ask, in their latest installment of the GeekScholars Casting Competition, back by popular demand.

From there, the GeekScholars get into their Preview Reviews for the week, taking a look at the trailer for the holiday family comedy Parental Guidance, starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, as well as the first preview for the action-fantasy flick, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

The GeekScholars then wrap up the episode by looking at the weekend box-office to see what’s coming out in both wide and limited release.

BLU-RAY NEWS: Bond Goes Blu this fall

quantum_of_solace

I think the James Bond series has to be one of the worst when it comes to triple dipping. But I’ll give them a break this time, because who doesn’t want to see Bond go Blu?  Six classic James Bond films are heading to Blu-ray this fall. According to the press release. It’s weird getting this Press Release today, I’m fairly sure I got it a few months ago. So maybe MGM double dipped the press release as well.  This initial set is a strong collection – DR. NO, DIE ANOTHER DAY, LIVE AND LET DIE, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and THUNDERBALL. The DVD also includes a ticket to QUANTUM OF SOLACE (man do I hate that title). The only weak link is the un-watchable Thunderball. If you really want this set, I would recommend waiting, I would bet the house on several more package variations.  You gotta give it to MGM, triple, quadruple, dip or not, it looks like they are handling these releases with care.   At $35 a pop for something I already own 3 different copies of (that I bought with my own money)  these better be darn good.  Check out the full Press Release after the break.

GAME PREVIEW: James Bond and the Quantum of Solace

Have I said how much I despise the title of the new James Bond movie? With that said Activision’s new James Bond game is looking pretty tasty. The official game website is an example of why Flash sucks. It’s slow and busy as heck. Absolutely hate it, but it does have all the community bells and whistles you’d expect. If you want to be frustrated, Check it out.
