In one of the biggest surprises of the year, the ratings challenged ABC Musical event series Galavant was picked up for another season. The comedy returns Jan 3rd. Season two picks up where the last one left off, with a little song and dance number about being happy to prove everyone wrong and a promise of a bigger and better 2nd season.
If Sunday’s ratings are any indication, ABC’s Galavant could just be a hit. As a result, the network is scheduling an encore of the first two episodes of the Spamalot-meets-Disney musical comedy for Wednesday, January 7th (tomorrow!) at 10/9C.
Galavant (ABC Mondays, 8/7C) is a weird little hybrid of a show – a musical about a knight, his One True Love and an evil king. In its complete disregard for anachronism and its willingness to go for the silly, it feels like a clever fusion of Monty Python and Disney.
For fall of the 2014-15 season, ABC has added six new shows: Selfie, Manhattan Love Story, Forever, Black-ish, How to Get Away with Murder and Cristela – three half-hour comedies and three dramas/dramedies. Waiting in the wings for mid-season are: American Crime, Fresh Off the Boat, Galavant, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Secrets and Lies and The Whispers – three dramas, a musical dramedy and two half-hour comedies. Marvel’s Agent Carter and Galavant will serve as bridge series between fall and spring runs of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and Once Upon a Time, respectively.
Some notable shifts among returning shows: Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal each move up an hour on Thursdays with How to Get Away with Murder sliding into the 10 pm slot; SHIELD moves back an hour, with Selfie and Manhattan Love Story taking over its former timeslot.
