(Fairfax, VA, March 2, 2014) Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour was so big and massive that I actually had to split the review in two. Demi has put together a day of girl power reaffirmation that is cleverly disguised as a regular Pop Concert. With the soundcheck party and four opening acts The Neon Lights Tour was literally an all day affair. By the time Demi herself strutted onto the stage a few minutes after 9pm the crowd was panting and shaking the building with screams. The Tweens around me were literally shaking and crying with anticipation. Part One of this Review.

Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour Review Pt1! The Appetizer

Demi Lovato Neon Lights Tour

(March 2, 2014, Fairfax, Va. Patriot Center) Anyone who follows me on the Tweet Machine or Facebook knows that I recently discovered an irrational love and obsession with Camp Rock and Hannah Montana, which is especially sad considering I’m an “old” black woman and both are five or six years old. I relived my Tweenhood last summer and went all in, purchased every Hannah Montana and Demi Lovato album. This week the obsession concludes the only way it could – attending Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour stop at Virginia’s Patriot Center. Even though the DMV is made up of weather wimps, I was surprised that Lovato packed the 10,000 seat house on a cold, rain/sleeting Sunday afternoon. Click here for – Demi’s Review.

Fox’s The X-Factor returns for its second season with a two-night premiere on Wednesday and Thursday (8/7C). I’ve seen the sizzle reel for the season and am amazed by the chemistry that new judges Demi Lovato and Britney Spears bring to the panel.

I was able to sit in on a conference call Q&A with Lovato and Simon Cowell, and their crabby uncle/sassy niece chemistry was evident right away. They talked about what we might expect in season two and Cowell expressed his displeasure in another network’s scheduling tactics with their singing competition. It was a very stimulating half-hour.

DVD REVIEW: The Princess Protection Program: Royal BFF Extended Edition

Princess Protection Program

There honestly isn’t much to say about the Disney Channel’s latest movie The Princess Protection Program.  It’s a competent and cute little paint by the numbers affair staring Disney’s newest “stars” Selena Gomez as “Tom Boy” Carter Mason who is forced to be friends with Princess Rosalinda / Rosie Gonzales played by Demi Lovato who was in the Disney film Camp Rock and appeared in the Jonas Brother’s concert film. Rosalinda’s Kingdom is taken over by an evil General which forces her to go into hiding.

Carter’s dad happens to be an operative for a secret organization called the Princess Protection Program whose job it is to hide and protect Princess’ throughout the world. So of course we get to see the Princess trying to adjust to being a normal American Teenager while Carter gets jealous at the attention her dad shows Rosie.  My issue with the movie is that Selena and Demi look too much alike, they could practically pass for twins and the movie feels like it was produced in a “factory.”  There’s no there, there. But it’s a perfectly harmless time waster and the two leads are likeable enough.
