Following his stint as the tenth Doctor on Doctor Who – and a satisfyingly tense turn on the miniseries, Spies of Warsaw – David Tennant will be back on American television as by-the-book DI (Detective Inspector) Alec Hardy, a dour, bristly sort whose recent posting to Broadchurch makes him the superior officer to Olivia Colman’s DS (Detective Sergeant) Ellie Miller in Broadchurch (BBC America, Wednesdays, 10/9C).
The eight-episode series is centered around the murder of a young boy, and explores the impact of the murder on the quiet seaside town. Check out the press release, after jump, for more details – including episode taglines and character descriptions. Broadchurch premieres on August 7th.

Spies of Warsaw (Wednesday, April 3 &10, 9/8C) is one of BBC America’s best Dramaville presentations. BBC America revealed this morning that the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler are about to be reunited! David Tennant and Billie Piper will appear in the show’s 50th Anniversary Special alongside the remarkable John Hurt and our stalwart current Doctor, Matt Smith and mysterious companion Clara Oswin, played by Jenna Louise-Coleman.
Does this mean that Doctor Ten and Rose Tyler will be return from some point after they were left in separate parallel worlds following season four finale Parting of the Ways – or will they be drawn from the middle of one of their many prior adventures? And who will John Hurt play? Has The Master found yet another way to cheat death? (After all, you don’t get someone of Hurt’s stature for just any old role…)
While we’re letting our minds run wild with speculation, check out the official press release following the jump.
