Are you ready to rock? Need a laugh? both needs will be met, J-Pop style, during the opening day at the 2015 J-Pop Summit.
The Summit will feature live performances by a host of J-Pop acts including: JAM Project, Eir Aoi, Gacharic Spin, JinnyOops!, Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass, Faint?Star, FES?TIVE, Comedy Duo Jaru Jaru, and A Cappella Group Little Glee Monster, among others.
I find myself intrigued by the six-member all-female a cappella group, Little Glee Monster and wondering how comedy duo Jaru Jaru will be received. JAM Project (pictured above) – composed of five members, all of whom who renowned for their vocal work on anime shows – could also be very interesting.

VIZ Media might just be taking over the 2015 Anime Expo, what with all the panels and activities it has planned for the four-day event.
To begin with, VIZ will celebrate Sailor Moon Day on Friday, July 3rd – which will see the publisher host a panel, an autograph session, a photo op and a cosplay gathering.
As well, VIZ plans panels and other events including the Shojo Beat Prize Wheel, Sailor Moon Tiara Giveaway & Quest for the Time Key and a poster giveaway. Plus, the appearance of Kanisama Kiss creator Julietta Suzuli for a panel and two autograph session.

Renowned contemporary pop artist Yusuke Nakamura – designer of album covers for Asian Kung Fu Generation as well as book covers for Tokuya Higashigawa’s Solve the Mystery after the Dinner and Tomihiko Morimi’s The Tatami Galaxy and Yoru ha Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome – has been named a Guest of Honor for the 2015 J-Pop Festival. The festival will take place on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday August 9th at the historic Fort Mason Center in San Francisco’s Marina district.

If you’ve read Death Note, Bakuman or All You Need Is Kill, then you know the talent possessed by manga artist Takeshi Obata. Obata will be appearing at New York Comic Con 2014 where he will be taking part on panels and having autograph sessions.

The 2014 J-POP Summit Festival will offer attendees a taste of what might await them should they sojourn to Japan. The Festival, in association with web-based Japanese cultural channel Japankuru (a coined word with the approximate meaning of ‘Come to Japan’), will provide information about Tokyo and other Japanese cities – include what to see, where to shop, where to eat, how to get there, and a wealth of other information not found in the typical guidebook. Attendees will also hear from Japankuru members about their personal experiences in Japan.
Besides Japankuru, so other notable Festival partners include: Arazou Watanabe (Japanese apparel tweaked for the modern day), CANMAKE Tokyo (makers of some of the best cosmetics in the world) and Kotobukiya (toys, figures, collectibles). In partnership with Japan’s legendary department store, Daimaru Matsuzakaya, Japankuru has produced a manga called NIJA & JANI, about a ninja named Nija who learns about OMOTENASHI (the spirit of hospitality) through and encounter with a girl traveler named Jani.

Constantine, Hannibal and Grimm lead the way as NBC and Universal Television sets out to invade Comic-Con 2014. Panels are planned for these shows as well as Bates Motel and a yet-to-be-named Adult Swim series featuring Triumph the Insult Dog.
NBC will host the panels for Hannibal and The Blacklist, while Universal Television will host panels, Grimm, Bates Motel and the Adult Swim show. The Constantine panel will include a screening of the pilot. For further details, follow the jump.

San Francisco’s celebration of all things J-POP, the 2014 J-POP Summit Festival, opens in eight days with J-POP acts like Tomomi Itano (pictured) and Yûki Furukawa performing in a free concert; a special screening of Ask This of Rikyu introduced by director Mitsutoshi Tanaka; appearances by several of Harajuku’s iconic models and designers, including Ayumi Seto, Misa Kimura, Una and Akira; and an appearance by the artie KEI, who created the iconic character design for the world’s first virtual pop singer Hatsune Miku.

Mitsutoshi Tanaka, director of Ask This of Rikyu, has been named an official Guest of Honor for the 2014 Japan Film Festival of San Francisco. Ask This of Rikyu ‘depicts the final days of Rikyu, a renowned 16th Century tea master with the most profound influence on chanoyu, the Japanese Way of Tea. His outspoken beliefs caused him to be ordered to commit ritual suicide by the chancellor Hideyoshi Toyotomi. ‘
Ask This of Rikyu will be screened one time at the festival and Tanaka will introduce the film and take part in an audience Q&A afterward. Follow the jump for information on how to get tickets to this special event.

The 2014 J-POP Summit Festival continue to bring fresh faces to America as teen idols Tokyo Girls’ Style, a five-girl dance and vocal group, will make their U.S. debut as part of the J-POP Summit Festival Live at Union Square concert on Saturday, July 19th. The group will also appear at the Pagoda Main Stage in Japantown on Sunday, July 20th and have a meet and greet with VIP Pass holders.
Tokyo Girls’ Style merchandise will be available at the Kinokuniya Booth on Post St. in Japantown throughout the festival – and two feature film premieres featuring the group will be a part of the Japan Film Festival Of San Francisco. The 2014 J-POP Summit Festival has announced a unique and very special Guest of Honor: KEI, the official artist illustrator who designed the world’s first virtual pop star, Hatsune Miku. KEI will be available for a rare autograph session at the Kinokuniya USA booth beginning at 1pm on both Saturday, July 19th and Sunday, July 20th. Kinokuniya USA and SEGA, whose Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F2nd will have a special live demo at the festival.
