Alex Ross has long since established himself as the go to guy for photo real takes on superheroes, having done covers and interior art for both Marvel and DC over a span of decades.
Random House imprint Pantheon Books will be publishing a superhero-sized (304 pages) collection of Ross’ art from Marvel Comics – Marvelocity – The Marvel Comics Art of Alex Ross. The volume will also include a new ten-page story.
Edited by Chip Kidd and Geoff Spear – and with an introduction by J.J. Abrams – Marvelocity will be in stores on October 2nd.
Japanese metal dance unit Babymetal is becoming a graphic novel from Z2 Comics.
Babymetal is a unique mix of J-pop/dance vocals and heavy, HEAVY metal backup. The band’s hits include Gimme Chocolate, Megitsune and KARATE – and their work has been lauded by Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Rob Zombie.
Apocrypha: The Legend of Babymetal is a collaboration between Z2 Comics, Hollywood film/TV production company Amuse Group USA, and BABYMETAL’s producer KOBAMETAL and is slated for a fall release.
Yesterday, DC Universe held their first ever live stream from Wondercon. I wish more companies would stream their panels, makes my life so much easier! Stream gave us lots of interesting tidbits on the brand new Sandman Universe, new Justice League and Teen Titan books and we found out that the Joker is not going to be happy about Batman’s upcoming nuptials. Honestly, I’m sick to death of the Joker and have no desire to read that one. Batman Metal will also conclude this week and will have big repercussions throughout the Universe. The DC Animated Universe finally releases a non Batman/Super Man related animated production. LEGO DC Super Heroes: The Flash hits store shelves this week, March 13 for $24 on Blu-ray, which seems pricey for a blu-ray release. This is a rare move outside the DCAU will house so even if you don’t like The Flash show DC they’ll finally do branch out into other characters beyond Batman/Superman.
Advocacy groups Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and National Coalition Against Censorship have released a new comic book to help protect students’ rights in light of millions of American students asserting their First Amendment rights in protests across the country.
Be Heard! is a free comic by cartoonist Kai Texel that outlines best practices to help kids assert their rights to speech, protest, assembly and petition, warns about risks, and provides resources to get more help.

When the animated series Mysticons premiered in 2017, Dark Horse and the show’s production company, Nelvana, announced a publishing agreement to produce a series of graphic novels based on the show.
