Chuck

There were six shows in the running in the online poll that allowed fans to pick the cover for the first time in the magazine’s 57-year history.  But in the end, it was a battle royale between The CW’s SUPERNATURAL and NBC’s CHUCK.  Both sides mobilized their fanbases, voting furiously for what seemed to be endless days; the battle complete with fun, drama and accusations of cheating so that fans could tip the scales in their favor.  But even cramped fingers resulting from entering endless ‘captcha’ codes could not deter these dedicated fans as they voted continuously for twelve grueling days at the end of October.  They have been waiting on pins and needles ever since to see if the fruits of their labor paid off.

As promised by Debra Birnbaum, Editor-in-Chief of TV Guide magazine, the announcement was made today. The news first broke when Ms. Birnbaum unveiled the cover on “The Early Show” this morning.  She stated that after attending Comic-Con the idea of the cover poll contest was inspired by seeing the enthusiasm that fans exhibit for certain shows which may not get huge ratings but have solid ‘cult’ followings.  This passion and dedication is not something that is reflected in the Neilsen numbers, but it was certainly reflected in the 5.5 million votes that came in.  In the end only about twenty thousand votes separated the winner and the runner-up.  Ms. Birnbaum also made the announcement via her Twitter feed confirming that Supernatural is the winner and providing a sneak peak at the cover that will be hitting newsstands on December 9 featuring the stars of Supernatural, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.  I have a feeling that after these issues fly off the shelf, TV Guide will be asking themselves why they never featured the Winchester brothers on the cover before!  At least for fans, it is a feeling of sweet victory for something they have been begging to see for six years now.  Congratulations Supernatural!  You not only earned it, but certainly deserve it.

Ok, Marla made her pitch to have you fine EM readers vote for Smallville and Supernatural to get the cover of TV guide. But me being your fearless leader have to go with Chuck for the cover. Smallville and Supernatural are in their last seasons, but poor Chuck can’t get no respect, so how could would it be if once again Chuck fans came through for the little show that could? Vote Chuck! And if that’s not enough Robert England is in a Halloween themed episode tonight.

Man is tonight going to be a big night TV watching. We have the Series finale of Law and Order at 10, a 2 hour series finale of 24 and a 2 hour season finale of Chuck. Somehow Chuck has managed to survive another season and will be back next year for a 13 episode run and I hope that’s all it is. Chuck is not a show that can sustain itself over a full 22 episodes. This season has been all over the place in terms of quality, it found it’s groove again last month, but the recent Ellie centric eps have been pretty terrible. I don’t like the whole she’s working for the Ring angle it simply doesn’t work. Tonight we get the return of Shaw this time as an intersec and based on the commercials the Buy Moore gets blown up – I hate it when they give away a MAJOR plot point and surprise like this. But it’s a two hour installment and I’m hoping to like it. It’s on Tonight (Monday) at 8pm.

Show your love for Chuck, rumor has it the ratings on tonight’s episode may determine whether it gets renewed or not. I know I’ve been the biggest Chuck hater this year, but once they iced Routhe and Morgan came on board Team Chuck it’s back to how it used to be.  In “Chuck vs. the Role Models” (TV-PG)Chuck and Sarah are mentored by a married pair of CIA spies who happen to hate one another. Fred Willard and Swoosie Kurtz guest star. Check out this funny clip from tonight.

Someday I may have to make my emails to Sheldon public, I haven’t talked much about Chuck this season because, frankly, I hated the first 1/2 but around episode 8 it started becoming the show that I used to like a lot and the last few eps before it’s recent break have been pretty awesome. I spoke with the Producer and he promises these next batch of episodes will bring the fun back, so I’m looking forward to tonight’s return.  I recently met with the Men of Chuck, Adam Baldwin, Zarchary Levi and Joshua Gomez, the boys seemed to have a lot of fun with each other. I did ask the question, “Why was Chuck such a dick for most of the season?” Of course I phrased it kindly – it’s the first question on PT 2. Check out the video interview -
