Rocky The Heavyweight Collection Blu-ray Reviewed by Michelle

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is the third time Fox has released the complete Rocky Set. I have the feeling this is timed to coincide with the brand new Broadway show that also launched in the last few weeks. Whatever the case, I’m always down for a solid Rocky marathon. This awesome new Rocky Heavyweight Collector’s set includes all six Rocky films in a beautiful slimmed down case and grittier box art. I’m not going to review all six films here because, let’s face it, if you don’t know what Rocky is by now, then you don’t care or have any taste in films and most likely you wouldn’t buy this set anyway. Just saying.

Iron Man 3 Gets Bland Blu-ray Treatment – Michelle’s Early Review

While I’ve always been a fan of the Iron Man comic books, the movies have always left me a bit cold – even the first one, that everyone seems to love. So I can’t say that I was eagerly anticipating Iron Man 3, nor can I say I was really disappointed with it. It started off surprisingly well but just kept getting worse.  Iron Man 3 is will be available on Blu-ray/DVD Sept 24th, the Digital HD version is available now.

Once Upon a Time Blu-ray Review – Michelle’s Take

Season Two of Once Upon A Time, ABC’s drama about classic fairy tale characters living in modern times is now available on Blu-ray. This 5 disc set includes all 22 episodes in glorious hi-definition. This is why TV on DVD/Blu-ray has been invented. I’m the first to rail against ABC Tv’s flakey scheduling for breaking a lot of shows. Serialized TV programs like Once Upon A Time, Revenge, Scandal are meant for binge watching. I admittedly have a very short attention span and I lose interest when I only get 1 or 2 episodes every one or two months.  So with Once Upon a Time I bailed on Season Two after Episode 7 last year.

GI Joe: Retaliation Blu-ray Review!

I will never understand my fellow moviegoers and critics. When you go see a movie like GI Joe, what exactly does one expect to see? While, I only saw it once, I walked away from it actually loving the heck out of it. Yes, I recognize that from a pure craft standpoint the movie was seriously flawed. But I don’t go to a GI Joe movie looking for craft. I go looking to be entertained, to watch a cartoon that I loved as a kid brought to life and see the property be treated with a modicum of respect. On that basis the first GI Joe delivered everything that I wanted.  But the movie was a critical and (I thought, apparently wrong, Box Office failure) so I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to find that a sequel was in the works.

The Hobbit Blu-ray Review!

The Hobbit Blu-ray Review

It used to be that when a movie became a trilogy (especially a planned one) it meant something. It was a very rare thing. How many years was it between Star Wars and Back to the Future to The Star Wars Prequels?  Thanks to the success of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it seems like a lot of movies are now being split in two for no storytelling reason.  Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2? Harry Potter? Ok, I’ll give you splitting Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, on paper, was a good idea, it was an 800 page book, but in execution? One 3-Hour movie probably would have been better.  Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn? Oh, hell nah….Now we have the absolute worst example of this new trend – Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.

Les Misérables Now on Blu-ray!

s Misérables Blu-ray Review

Les Misérables is one of the most popular and longest running musicals of all time. Just in the DC area alone it has grossed over $53 million dollars in its numerous runs. On Broadway it has earned over $800 million dollars. Based on the Victor Hugo classic (At 1,400 pages it is one of the longest books ever written) it is a universal, moving and emotional story about redemption against all odds. It has one more medium to try and conquer – Blu-ray/DVD.
