Batman: The Killing Joke is the adaptation of the wildly popular and critically successful graphic novel written by Alan Moore in 1988. The central story revolves The Joker, following his most recent escape from Arkham Asylum, seeking to prove that all people can devolve to the level to insanity and depravity where he currently, knowingly, resides. To test this theory, The Joker captures and psychologically tortures Commissioner Jim Gordon, taunting him using lurid imagery of his daughter, Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl).
I will never understand why the DCU doesn’t release some of their animated films into the theater, at least for limited engagements. I mean usually their stuff blows away a lot of the major studio releases. Looks like they are going to test the waters this summer with a one time showing Batman: The Killing Joke.
One of the most eagerly anticipated Superhero films of the year, for comic book fans, isn’t coming out in theaters, it’s coming on Blu-ray in Aug, however some lucky fans will get to see one of the most controversial comic books EVER, Batman: The Killing Joke a little bit earliar. Continuing a decade-long tradition, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) will host the World Premiere of its latest DC Universe Original Movie at SDCC. The premiere will be held Friday, July 22, 2016. This is the year I’ll finally get to meet the great Mark Hamill! Woot!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know one of the most famous and gruesome Batman stories ever is finally being translated to the screen! Batman: The Killing Joke has been on many people’s wish lists for the last 10 years and DC Animation is answering the call. They normally hit it out of the park and I expect another amazing outing with one of their more esoteric outings yet. Why can’t the film verse just put Bruce Timm in charge? Sheesh. The Blu-ray/DVD is coming out August 2nd.
