American Odyssey (NBC, Sundays, 10/9C) has been compared (positively and negatively) to Homeland. It’s a complex show with threads that link three different locales and sets of related characters to a conspiracy within the military-industrial complex – all tied together through a female Special Forces solider named Sgt. Odelle Ballard.

In last week’s episode, one of the few people she had come to trust to help her get home, Shakir Khan (Yousef Sweid), was killed. Shakir was unique and her death carried with it a unique impact. A few days ago, Sweid and series executive producer Peter Berg spoke about Shakir’s death, conspiracy theories and more with a group of bolggers/journalists.

With its premiere on April 5, “American Odyssey” brings tv viewers through a series of twists and turns as Sergent Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel), lone survivor of a fatal massacre in North Africa, fights for her life with the help of a young boy Aslam in her attempt to get back home to her family in  New York.  On the other side of the Atlantic, activist Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson) and hacker Bob Offer (Nate Mooney) suspect that the slain soldier Ballard is actually alive. At the same time, attorney Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli) attempts to keep his family together while he continues to find clues to a corporate coverup and suppresses his guilt over the death of a person he feels responsible for.

Peter Facinelli took time to talk with reporters about his role as Peter Decker in NBC’s “American Odyssey”.

A team of American soldiers battles jihadists in North Africa and kills Al Qaeda’s top commander.  However, celebration is short lived when the entire team is terminated soon after, except for one–soldier, mother, and wife Sergeant Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel).   Unbeknownst to her family, Ballard survives the attack and is the only witness to the unit’s actual assassin: private military contractors Osela. As she struggles to find her way back to New York, former U.S. attorney turned corporate litigator Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli) is entangled with the same company that employed the jihadists and political activist Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson) befriends hacker Bob Offer (Nate Mooney) who claims to have discovered a massive industrial-corporate coverup that could threaten the entire country.  Creators Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster gave the scoop to reporters about “American Odyssey”.
