MOVIE REVIEW: G-Force Doesn’t Push the Envelope, It Glides

G-FORCE

G-Force tells the story of a team of special agent rodents who were sent on a mission for the U.S. Government. The team was trained by Ben (Zach Galifianakis) who has been training them for three years to take on the missions the FBI cannot handle.

The team was threatened by the government to be shutdow, but they performed one mission to prove their might. Their latest mission was to infiltrate the home of Dr. Saber (Bill Nighy) and retrieve information of Operation: Clusterform. Clusterform was in reality a code sent to computer chips in Sabersense Appliances (The largest applicance company in the world) to turn them into killing machines that will exterminate the human race.

MOVIE REVIEWS: The Hurt Locker – War and the Effects of War!

Ever since Kathryn Bigelow made a splash with her “vampire western,” it was thought that she would one day produce a masterpiece. That day has come. The Hurt Locker is one of the year’s best films.

Set in Iraq, The Hurt Locker is not about any particular war – this one just happens to be handy and provides an immediate frame of reference. Rather, this is a film about the effects of war on those who fight in them – in this case, members of a team of bomb experts.

MOVIE NEWS: Saw VII Official

sawVI poster

Jesus, talking about milking a franchise that should have ended years ago. I was completely on board with the first SAW and actually thought it was one of the ten best films the year it came out. But once they killed off Jigsaw the franchise basically ended. But in Hollywood Horror villains never die they just manage to live on through others.  SAW VI isn’t even out yet and already the producers are prepping Saw VII. The full story is here.

MOVIE REVIEWS: G-Force: Disney-Bruckheimer Combo Makes for Good Goofy 3-D Summer Fun!

They’re lean, mean and fuzzy – except for the aerial reconnaissance guy – who’s a real fly! Three guinea pigs, a mole and the housefly compose the crack team of spies in the Disney/Bruckheimer collaboration, G-Force. Darwin [voiced by Sam Rockwell] is the putative leader; Blaster [Tracy Morgan] is the muscle/driver; Juarez [Penelope Cruz] is the martial artist and self-described “brains of the outfit]; Speckles [Nicholas Cage] is the tech expert, and Mooch [Dee Bradley Baker] is the eyes in the sky. There’s also an unexpected brother, Hurley [Jon Favreau] and a wannabe tough guy hamster, Bucky [Steve Buscemi] to add to the fun.

Created by Ben [Zach Galafianakis], with aid from his assistant Marcie [Kelli Garner], the team goes on unauthorized mission to keep the project from being shut down. They infiltrate the home of the head of the Saberlink Corporation [Bill Nighy] and download the plans to what they believe to a diabolical plan for world domination – code named Clusterstorm. When the file appears to be marketing for a new, glitzy coffeemaker, the project is shut down – but before the team can be caught and exterminated, they are whisked off to a pet shop. Now all they have to do is escape the pet shop, find Ben, and figure out why their stolen file isn’t what it should be. Then they can save the world.

COMIC-CON: Two new Iron Man 2 Photos

Direct from Comic-Con here are two brand new photos from Iron Man 2. Looks like someone’s been in a major car crash.  Love the wall of suits in the background shot. Pretty nifty.

COMIC-CON: Seth Rogan Unveils Green Hornet Car

San Diego, California - July 22, 2009: Executive Producer/Writer Seth Rogen at the Comic-Con unveiling of The Black Beauty, a 1965 Chrysler Imperial from Columbia Pictures' The Green Hornet.

San Diego, California - July 22, 2009: At the Comic-Con unveiling of The Black Beauty, a 1965 Chrysler Imperial from Columbia Pictures' The Green Hornet.

Seth Rogan was on-hand at Comic-Con to Unveil Green Hornet’s car “The Black-Beauty.” The car is a 1965 Chyrsler Imperial, much like the Black Beauty used in the iconic Green Hornet TV series. The movie comes out next summer and will star Seth Rogan, they haven’t cast Kato yet and rumors are circulating that Nicholas Cage wants to play the bad guy. I’m on record as not liking Seth Rogan, so I can’t say I’m looking forward to this.  You can see the original story at Cinema Blend.

COMIC-CON NEWS: Twilight Storms the Room

newmoon2

Comic-con kicked off with a bang this morning with the stars of Twilight giving a 9:30 am press conference to hordes of screaming fan girls everywhere. They camped out for days and got there wish as Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner took center stage.  Reporters weren’t allowed to ask any personal questions and all the questions had to be related to New Moon.  Here are a couple of tidbits:

  • Even though Edward hardly appears in the movie he will still make appearances via “hallucinations.” “It would look probably pretty cheesy if it were just my voice, so they’ve done these hallucinations, semi-visible apparitions,” Pattinson said, explaining how he’ll be visible even in his character’s absence. “It’s how she remembers him, not necessarily how he actually is,” added Stewart.
  • “There are definitely fans who separate into separate teams.Sometimes it gets me nervous because I’m trying to live up to the fans expectations and represent Team Jacob in the right way,” Lautner said. “I thought they did a pretty good job with the wolf transformation… The werewolves definitely step up the action in this movie. There’s double the action in this movie,” Lautner assured the crowd. He adds, “There’s not just this romance between a human and a vampire. There’s also the beginning of a love triangle.”

Word out of the entertainment industry sources is that 24 year old Australian actor Xavier Samuel has been cast in the role of a newly created vampire named Riley. Riley will become an accomplice to the machinations of the evil Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) in her plot to do away with Bella (Kristin Stewart).

Xavier, while relatively unknown to American audiences, is no stranger to playing roles in the horror genre. He appeared in the Australian horror movie the Loved Ones.

Eclipse, which will be Samuel Xavier’s first role in a US film, is set to begin shooting next month in Vancouver and will be released on June 30, 2010. David Slade is directing from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg.
