Guess what? The role of Vice-President is more than a mostly ceremonial position – it’s a role that is of vital importance to the security and well-being of America! TNT today announced that Sharon Stone has been signed to play Vice-President Natalie Maccabee in Agent X, a pilot with a terrific concept at its core. Maccabee ran for Vice-President in her late husband’s place and won. Initially fearing a mostly ceremonial role, she discovers that, along with her Chief Steward and a mysterious secret operative dubbed Agent X, she is expected to protect the Constitution in times of great crisis.

Agent X (a working title that I hope they decide to keep) is written by William Blake Herron (The Bourne Identity), which immediately gives it some cachet – and makes it of interest to everyone who loves a good espionage tale. For more, follow the jump to check out the press release.

Emmy® and Golden Globe® Winner Sharon Stone To Star in TNT’s Action-Drama Pilot Agent X (working title)

Pilot Being Produced by Beacon Pictures From Script by The Bourne Identity Writer William Blake Herron

Oscar® nominee and Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Sharon Stone (Casino) has signed to play the Vice President of the United States in TNT‘s new action-drama pilot Agent X (working title). Penned by William Blake Herron (The Bourne Identity), Agent X is being produced for TNT by Beacon Pictures, with Armyan Bernstein (Air Force One, Spy Game, Children of Men, Castle) serving as executive producer.

In Agent X, Stone stars as America’s first female Vice President, Natalie Maccabee, a woman with brains, beauty, and a cool composure that belies a restless mind. After the death of her husband, a Senate candidate, Natalie opted to run in his place. After a rapid rise as a political star, she now finds herself the newly elected Vice President of the United States. Initially apprehensive that her job will be ceremonial in nature, she soon learns that it comes with a Top Secret duty: protecting the Constitution in times of great crisis with the aid of her Chief Steward and a secret operative designated "Agent X."

An award-winning actress, producer, and former fashion model, Sharon Stone came to international attention for her performance in the 1992 Hollywood blockbuster film Basic Instinct and again in1996, when she won a Golden Globe® and earned an Oscar® nomination for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Casino.

On television, Stone has been seen in the 2001 HBO movie If These Walls Could Talk 2 and three episodes of The Practice as Sheila Carlisle, earning an Emmy® for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. She was also seen Will & Grace, Roseanne and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

Stone’s additional movie credits include The Muse, Sliver, The Mighty, Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction, Alpha Dog, When a Man Falls, The Year of Getting to Know Us, Catwoman, Sphere, Bobby, The Quick and the Dead and Lovelace. This year she will be seen in Fading Gigolo, with Woody Allen, and What About Love, with Andy Garcia.

A dedicated activist, Stone has worked on behalf of the amfAR for 20 years as the Global Fundraising Chairperson and this was honored this year by the Nobel Peace Laureates with the Peace Summit Award for her work with HIV/AIDS.
