FREEFORM (FORMERLY ABC FAMILY) LAUNCHES ITS NEWLY REDESIGNED, NEXT-GENERATION NETWORK STREAMING APP

The First Two Episodes Of The Much Anticipated New Series “Shadowhunters” Will Be Available

For All Users Nationwide Tonight

In concert with the transition from ABC Family to Freeform, Tom Ascheim, Freeform president, is announcing today that the new Freeform app is now available in the App Store. The updated look, feel, and user experience further blends the network’s dynamic shows with relevant social content innate to its “Becomer” audience.

“Our audience is comprised of mobile natives,” said Ascheim. “They live in a digital world and have the expectation that their shows will be available to them on whatever device they are on.  The redesigned app begins a new year for us when digital is of equal importance to what we do in the linear world. It’s like having Freeform in the palm of your hands.”

“This launch marks an important evolution in our TV everywhere strategy,” Kenny Miller, senior vice president of Digital Programming & Product continues. “Our vision of the Freeform app is as an ever-evolving platform for innovation in media formats, ad models, and user creativity around the properties fans love.”

New features include:

  • Fully redesigned and optimized user interface to provide the ultimate mobile viewing experience.
  • The ability to feature external mobile apps, sites and social content attached to shows, movies, and collections.

The new Freeform app will continue to feature exclusive programming events. Immediately following tonight’s series premiere of “Shadowhunters” (9:00 – 10:00 p.m. EST), the first and second episodes of the supernatural thriller will be available to fans nationwide without signing in. Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series “The Mortal Instruments” by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons.

“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive-produced by Ed Decter and McG. McG will also direct the first episode. The series stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway, and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane.

The Freeform app makes it possible for fans who verify with a participating TV provider to watch a live feed of the network and the most recent episodes of their favorite Freeform shows on demand anytime, anywhere via desktops, mobile and connected TV devices. The app is available for free in the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore.
