Movies: Michelle’s Top Films of 2009

Thank god this year of movie blandness is over. I generally detest doing lists of any sort. I barely remember the movies I watched last week, that alone mediocre films from months ago. When I do a year end top 10 list I try and have balance, but this year it’s pretty mainstream. There weren’t too many small films that interested me this year. I always have at least one “WTF is she thinking?” movie on my list, so I’m getting it out of the way now – I loved G.I. Joe. Make of that what you will, one thing I will not do this year is give a lot of explanation as to why these are my top films of 2009. You can take it or leave it. With that said here’s the list.

13) GI Joe

12) The Hurt Locker

11) The Watchmen

10) 2012

9) Moon

8) Tyson

7) Julia and Julia

6) District 9

5) Michael Jackson’s This is It

4) Coraline 3D

3) Up

2) Inglourious Basterds

1) Star Trek

Most disappointing films of 2009 – Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Terminator: Salvation

  1. Well Michelle after your horrible Avatar review and still thinking what the heck you were smoking when you saw it. And what the heck is cute for you in movies? I have to say that your list is pretty solid with my second favorite film of the year (after Avatar 3D) Star trek on your top list, (My third favorite and more original) District 9, Caroline, Watchmen, were good. Up was cute but not exciting. Gi Joe and 2012 were good popcorn cliche, cheesy fun but not in the technical level of Avatar and the story and acting of Avatar was better. I have to agree about Harry Potter because the director is taking the magic away for more drama.
