Lisa Edelstein – Doctor Lisa Cuddy to you – has decided to leave Fox’s long-running series House M.D. She gave the following statement to the press:
"After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead."
House has been a wreck since he and cuddy broke up, so I have to think that season eight of the series will find House being even more crotchety than usual. My personal hunch is that our medical Sherlock Holmes will wind up on the streets – having driven Wilson [his Watson] and his hand-picked diagnostics team [his Baker Street Irregulars] away – and seeking refuge from his pain and boredom in drugs.
Somehow, I can’t see a happy ending for the character – or the series – after Cuddy’s gone. She’s been the only reason he’s remained more or less functional throughout the show’s run.
