SundanceTV’s new epic genre drama, “Cleverman,” starring Iain Glen (“Game of Thrones”) and Golden Globe® nominee Frances O’Connor (“The Missing”), premieres on Wednesday, June 1 at 10/9C.

Set in the very near future, this six episode one-hour drama follows a group of extraordinary beings who battle for survival in a world where humans feel increasingly threatened by them. These creatures from ancient mythology, known as “Hairypeople” for the matted hair covering their bodies, have recently made themselves known and have extraordinary strength, speed and longevity, but are cast as social misfits and seek refuge in The Zone: a fragile community that finds strength in the brotherhood between Hairy and human.

Central to the drama is the story of two estranged Indigenous brothers, one of whom assumes the power of the “Cleverman” who acts as the conduit between the worlds of the Dreaming and the present. The brothers, played by Hunter Page-Lochard (The Sapphires) and Rob Collins (The Lion King), are forced together to fight for their own survival.

A co-production of Red Arrow International and SundanceTV, the series also stars Deborah Mailman (The Sapphires) and Stef Dawson (The Hunger Games). “Cleverman” is based on an original concept by Ryan Griffen, and Jacob Nash (Bangarra Dance Company), along with the Oscar®-winning, world-renowned Weta Workshop (Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, Avatar, and more), provided the creature designs.
