Eclipse Magazine speaks with cast of Clean House New York

The Style Network has finished airing its first season of Clean House New York with hosts Michael Moeller and Nina Ferrer and was filled with many continuous episodes of people’s living environments filled with clutter. Here’s a clip:

Eclipse Magazine recently had the opportunity to interview both Michael Moeller and Nina Ferrer about their show Clean House: New York. Here’s how the interview took place:
EM: How does it feel to host your own show on The Style Network?

Nina: Style network is a great family to be a part of. The network produces good quality television that doesn’t always take itself to seriously. I am proud to be a part of their growing family. It feels great to be able list as part of my credentials that I am the host and designer of an already successful show and feels even better that I am doing all of this with my friend Michael Moeller. Our job is to help people and have fun, really? Pinch me, I might be dreaming

Michael: Amazing… And even cooler that I get to do it with a great friend. Nina and I have a lot of fun when we are together, and put the cameras on us and it just becomes more fun. The Style family is a great group of people too, it’s like a dream job…

EM: Have you had any favorite episodes that you enjoyed over others?

Nina: My favorite episode, Larry, it has not aired yet. Larry is a true blue new yorker, We really got each other, the back and forth was fantastic. I laughed throughout the entire episode. Afterwards I was like “does it make me crazy that I get this guy”

Michael: The Magnus Family on Staten Island… I loved this family. Their energy was so fun, they loved to laugh, and they really appreciated what we did for them. Plus their New York accent was AWESOME!

EM: What has been the most difficult episode to do?

Nina: The most difficult Episode was Episode 5, Paul McClure. Paul has the talent of acting so it was often hard to tell weather he was being genuine or if he was just telling us what he thought we wanted hear. The homeowners have to go through the process of healing and if they are not being genuine we do not leave feeling as though they have fully received all the help they need.

Michael: The Steifs… Bedbugs… Gross… This is not something I signed up for, nor did anyone on the crew or production. To involve yourself with something this serious and then solve the issue for the people is more than just coming in and “making pretty”. It changed the game, forced us to really step up, and make this all go away for these people. I think this was the only case where I thought, “is this really happening?”

EM: What is your best advice to others who wish to redecorate their small space after throwing out the clutter?

Nina:
Necessities necessities necessities. Simplicity is genius and cleanliness is next to godliness. Have a color scheme and stuck with it.

Michael: Be smart with what you are filling your place up with, decorate with intention. Interior design has become super saturated with product these days, some that’s good and some not so much. Especially when you’re surfing the web for furniture and accessories, things come up that you say “wow, that’s cute and cheap”… Read the fine print, really inquire about what the good is made of, how it’s made, where it’s manufactured, etc. Just because the picture on-line looks good, doesn’t mean it’s worth it… Don’t buy junk! Take your time to seek out local vendors, thrift shops, yard sales (especially Clean House New York ones) and find stuff that is worthy of your budget.

EM: If the show wasn’t filming in New York, would there be any other cities you would like to film clean house in?

Nina: I love a warm climate so anywhere with sunshine. Miami? Hawaii? Greece? Lol. You get where I am going with this.

Michael: I love to travel, so I think it’d be cool to take it on the road, maybe Chicago or Boston… I think since we’ve mastered the art of decorating small spaces keeping that context would be interesting.

EM: How has being contestants on Design Star helped the both of you with Clean House New York?

Nina: Design star was like TV boot camp. I learned that I make good TV and I have a recognizable voice and look. All things I was never aware of being an architect for Ralph Lauren in corporate America. Being recognized has also brought on the knowledge of the power you have to make a difference with even the slightest bit of fame. Design star for me is the beginning, I am still working on the ending ;).

Michael: Well the exposure alone is what got me the call to come in and audition for the role, other than that, it’s all me… My adorable charming self…

EM: What other types of shows would you like to do for the Style Network?

Nina: I am interested in design driven informative shows. My degree is in architecture and I studied painting photography in Italy. I would Love to bring these talents to life on the big screen and really transform the TV design world.

Michael: I’d love to do more stuff with decorating and design. Hosting a show that highlights design ideas and brings tricks of the trade to the masses could be a lot of fun. And maybe a wedding special one day 😉
