CBS Announces Two-Hour Super Bowl’s Greatest Halftime Shows Special!


Basically, there are three reasons people watch the Super Bowl – and only one of them is the actual game. The other others are, of course, the commercials (which get their own specials every year) and the halftime show.

Super Bowl’s Greatest Halftime Shows is a two-hour special that trace the history of the halftime show’s development into one of the biggest events of the year. Narrated by NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O’Donnell, it will feature some of the best performances in super Bowl history and interviews with some of the biggest performers including: Beyoncé, Bono, Missy Elliot, Bruno Mars and more.

Two days before the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers kick off in SUPER BOWL 50, SUPER BOWL’S GREATEST HALFTIME SHOWS will celebrate the best halftime performances in Super Bowl history and trace the evolution of the event over 49 years. Narrated by NCIS: LOS ANGELES star Chris O’Donnell, the new two-hour special will be broadcast Friday, Feb. 5 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.  As previously announced, Coldplay will be among the artists that will take the stage during SUPER BOWL 50’s halftime show.

In addition to highlighting past shows, the anthology includes fresh interviews with top performers who have made the Super Bowl Halftime Show one of the most highly anticipated live 12 minutes on television, including Beyoncé (2013), Bono (2002), Missy Elliot (2015), Bruno Mars (2014), Sir Paul McCartney (2005) and Katy Perry (2015).

Also, Halftime Show producers Jimmy Iovine (2003) and Don Mischer (2005-2009), director Hamish Hamilton (2010, 2012-2016), journalists, music executives and former NFL personnel share their insider memories of past performances, such as Michael Jackson (1993), Madonna (2012), No Doubt (2003), Prince (2007), The Rolling Stones (2006), Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (2009), Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (2008) and The Who (2010), among others.

SUPER BOWL 50, featuring Denver taking on Carolina, airs live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Sunday, Feb. 7 (6:30 PM, ET/3:30 PM, PT) on CBS.
