Eclipse Magazine presents The GeekScholars Movie News Podcast #057

Welcome fans to this week’s episode of the GeekScholars Movie News podcast! The show kicks off with a trio of headlines including news about a new Looney Tunes movie, a director taking on the Baywatch adaptation, plus the possibility that has LEGO inadvertently spoiled a second villain’s appearance in next the Superman movie, Man of Steel.

After that, the GeekScholars debut a brand new segment called ‘Where Are They Now?’, where each host does a little research to find out what some once-stars are up to these days, having made the move from spotlight to obscurity. This week the GeekScholars hunted down Pearl Harbor’s Josh Hartnett, Clueless’ Alicia Silverstone, and The Wonder Years’ Fred Savage.

From there, the GeekScholars analyze and grade the trailers for the Jackie Robinson biopic, 42, starring Harrison Ford as Brooklyn Dodgers’ owner, Branch Rickey, as well as Promised Land, a nearly-ripped-from-the-headlines tale about the boom of natural gas excavation and its potential effect on a small farming town, starring Matt Damon.

GeekScholar Fox then closes out the episode with his review and grade for the comic-book adaptation of Dredd 3D.

Eclipse Magazine presents the GeekScholars Movie News Podcast #055 – Pacino as Paterno, The Future of James Bond, Star Trek 2 Gets a Title, Jim Carrey in Kick Ass 2, Recasting Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Much Much More!

GeekScholars Movie NewsThis episode of the GeekScholars Movie News podcast, quite simply, is awesome. To start, the GeekScholars discuss, and speculate about, the headlines for the week which include the news that Al Pacino will play famed Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in a biopic, Daniel Craig’s future with the James Bond franchise, Star Trek 2‘s newly revealed title, thoughts on the announced Safe House prequel/ sequel, and the addition of Jim Carrey to Kick-Ass 2.

And while all of that sparked some really interesting (and very geeky) conversation, what you absolutely do not want to miss are the crew’s picks for recasting Raiders of the Lost Ask, in their latest installment of the GeekScholars Casting Competition, back by popular demand.

From there, the GeekScholars get into their Preview Reviews for the week, taking a look at the trailer for the holiday family comedy Parental Guidance, starring Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, as well as the first preview for the action-fantasy flick, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

The GeekScholars then wrap up the episode by looking at the weekend box-office to see what’s coming out in both wide and limited release.

Eclipse Magazine presents GeekScholars Movie News #054: Beverly Hills Cop and SHIELD Go to TV, Wachowskis in the Mix For Justice League, Sleepwalk with Me Reviewed and More!

GeekScholars Movie NewsOn this fast, but full, episode of the GeekScholars Movie News podcast, the crew begins by discussing the news that Beverly Hills Cop, and a spin off from The Avengers, focusing on S.H.I.E.L.D., are making their way to the small screen. The GeekScholars then muse over the possibility that the Wachowskis might end up directing Justice League, Michael Douglas’ ability to play Ronald Reagan in Reykjavik, and whether or not casting Michael Keaton as the villain can save the Robocop reboot from all the negative attention it’s been receiving.

GeekScholars Movie News headlines conclude this week with the rumors that Sony may be planning a movie based upon the video game console wars (but which ones?), and Jon Turteltaub’s possible feature film, Beached, about a boy raised by whales who becomes an Olympic swimmer. You read that right.

From there, the GeekScholars get into their Preview Reviews for the week, taking a look at the trailers for two documentaries, Head Games, which deals with the latest information regarding sports concussions, and How to Make Money Selling Drugs, which deals with…well, exactly what the title says.

GeekScholar Chris wraps up the show with a mini-review of the independent comedy, Sleepwalk with Me, which he had a chance to check out last week.
