Altered Invasion Ads

Posted by   on September 11, 2005

So I was watching a bit of football on the alphabet network last night and an ad comes on for Invasion. I remembered seeing an earlier ad, but the premise of the show looked uninteresting to me, so I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention.

Still, there was this nagging thought that the ad had really changed. Duh – ABC has excised all references to the fictional hurricane used in the pilot as a cover for an alien invasion. I can appreciate the altering of the advertising in the interest of ‘sensitivity’. But they are going to have a heck of a time getting around it when it is the CENTERPIECE of the pilot.

If they go ahead as planned, they risk being insensitive. If they make it a mid-season replacement, they risk losing ground to other SF offerings this season, such as Surface. I fear the Invasion crowd may be yet another victim to hurricane Katrina.

Alias Season 5

Hot on the news that Michael Vartan’s character Vaughn may not survive all of Season 5…

First off, Jennifer Garner’s pregnancy will apparently be written into Season 5. And perhaps of even greater interest, according to the Slice of SciFi podcast, Jennifer Garner has indicated that she may depart the ABC vehicle at the end of season 5.

Alias without Syd *and* Vaughn ? I don’t think so.

Anyone seen Sky High, Disney’s take on Profressor X’s School for Gifted Mutants with an Incredibles twist ? I’ve only seen trailers but the casting of Lynda Carter as the school principal seems like truly inspired casting.

The latest trailer for Serenity is now up at the Apple website. And rumor has it that the release date may be moved up from September 30. That means if you haven’t seen Firefly, now is the time to head to Best Buy or Amazon or your favorite DVD retailer and pick up the set. Or, if you don’t mind the commercials, its part of SciFi’s Friday lineup for the time being.

Shiny.

New trend in TV on DVD

I just saw where Columbia Tristar is releasing two different versions of Bewitched Season 1. For the purists, Elizabeth Montgomery and Darren v1.0 is available in glorious black and white. For those who go to see the movie this summer and want their Bewitched in color, there’s a second version that’s been colorized.

The interesting thing that I read, is that many early television shows were made in black and white even after they could be made in color. The reason… The majority of people didn’t have color sets and it was cheaper to do the shows in black and white.

Wow… its contest central round these parts. Things are heating up for the last stretch of summer. Looks good, Michelle. Funny about Wanted. Two weeks ago, I saw my first commercial, at the Winston Cup race at Pocono they had the Saliva member who’s going to be on the show, and now the big contest. Don’t know if its my kind of show, but TNT has certainly made me aware of it.
